happy happy birthday to our wonderful community. :)
well there's been a few board crashes over the years. '05 is when we moved from ezboard if i remember correctly. the board was around before june 2000 also but we had another crash or we did a restart for some reason my memory fails me a bit though at the moment. :)

wow another year already!? not fair, wheres my life going? lol
yay board!! :D
This forum has enraged & enlightened me thoroughly at various times since i began trolling sometime in '02.In my opinion this website represents what is so absolutely crucial in the defining & development of this artform:open & honest (sometimes malicious & deceptive) communication. Thanks to all who have ever had the knowledge to share here & also to all who have voiced their opinions here...i have been truly inspired @ some time by many of you here.Your kind & supportive, yet sometimes brutally honest answers & replies have meant much to me through the years. Thanks to all who make the GLDG the amazing site it is...So,this forum is a gemini? no wonder it's so crazy...

Hats off to Kristian Turley for getting the whole shebang started!
What was before the fartglasspipemakers board?
There was the Glass Line forum. The people who were talking there were a bit older and fairly conservative in their views... folks from the 90s marble and bead community. They prevailing atmosphere was negative towards pipes and pipemakers - I think you weren't allowed to discuss pipes or some total shit like that. Kristian got tired of that, stepped up and created a welcoming, inclusive community.

I remember when i first started blowing glass, and everyone was super stingy with there techniques and style. This forum was one of the only places at the time i could find that "most" people were willing to share ideas. Happy Birthday awesome forum!!!

What was before the fartglasspipemakers board?
I remember a few different forums (Brad poop shute, glassline, olympic color, ISGB, alt.craft.glass) Every time someone would ask a simple boro question several folks would flip out about pipes and the name calling would start. The good old days, lol.
Big UP to all who have helped make this the best glass forum on the net.

This is the way I remember the scene from way back.
Brad Shute started one of the first glass forums on Internet. It was and still is comprised of mostly off hand blowers. Brad is and does lampworking and was always willing to answer or host lampworking questions.
Kristian started the first glass forum that didn't discriminate against pipers. This snowballed into what we have today. The largest glass community on the Internet. Long live the melting pot and all the diversity it holds. Huge thanks to Kristian, Misha, Mer and all the mods that keep this place going strong.
Happy Birhday!!!
