It would be way cooler if it was on craigslist for $75!

i posted on these a little while back :
http://www.talkglass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35549&highlight=portable+lox

me being somewhat more frivolous with purchases like these would say, buy it. if it can be adapted, then it would be awesome, especially for traveling or remote places.

if it doesn't end up working out, you're either out $75( as it has been broken trying yo adapt it or ends up not suiting your needs), or it could be sold for more than you paid.

i'd have bitten the bullet earlier but $400 was just outside my gambling money.

styles said this in the other thread :

"My friend has one like this. Not sure if it's same brand but cost about 80 dollars to fill here in Eugene. He bought it from Airgas. I think they need a couple parts changed to blow glass with them. He paid $700 rebuilt/ refurbished."

styles, where you at with the update? if this works, it would be awesome to hear more about the specs of your friend's tank, and what it takes to convert them.

i would buy that thing in an instant if it were local. if you can get any manufactures names or model number your gas co can probably get the info on it.

but seriously, a 40 qt stainless soup pot will cost you $75.

if all else failed u could probably use it for beer brewing. there is no way its not a good deal.

I can get you as many of these tanks as you want for about $300 each....

They're rated to 22 psi and cannot be converted to a higher pressure, as it's a safety issue... the internal blow-out is rated to about 60psi, and if that goes the tank is worth scrap.

The lpm can be increased a bit with an external regulator, but the internal is plenty for most torches they'll run. To modify for an external reg isn't too hard, just need the parts...

They do put out gas, not sure why someone in the other thread said they're for liquid delivery... the ones I've seen can ONLY put out gas, they have fail-safes to prevent the release of liquid... could probably be by-passed, but why?

Full they weigh about 200#, so they're not impossible to dead lift if you're strong, but they're not THAT light. The guys at Airgas lift them into a van, but you can tell it's hard work.

They require a special adapter to refill through a port on the top... it's a kind of quick connect fitting. The guys around here have their own, I've never seen the part at Airgas, it always goes with the van. No idea what it costs, but probably cheap-ish...

All in all tho, if you're on a small torch, they're a decent way to get oxygen... but for what they'll run, a concentrator makes more sense unless you've got a mobile set up and can't run a dedicated alternator or generator for a concentrator.

Anyways, Jared... Buy it. If you don't like it, sell it at AGI for like $150... duh?

Like Doug said they can't be converted. These aren't the liquid kind. My friend does have a 80 liter mini liquid dewar, they are really rare though. He also only runs a cheetah off of it.

well, they're filled with liquid O2, you just can't extract it once it's in... you probably could if you tipped the tank over...but..I wouldn't.
