I want to make a door plaque for my daughters room with her name on it out of glass. Has anybody done this?

I was thinking I could make each letter individually with some kind of peg sticking out the back, then mount them on a piece of wood. That's all I've got so far.

Got any brilliant ideas? I would love to hear them!

Write her name on the outside of a tube 50mil or bigger, then snip and flip. You could go a few steps further and set that on the back of a piece of plate glass place some disc flips in a couple spots, some scrap dichro, and slump that shit in. Whatcha think about that?

Check out chris carlsons thread. Some of his latest stuff with just clear rod is really cool.

Here's the link.

Not sure if it was him that made the sign but I think ita's cool as hell

Bombdiggity, sound interesting. I want it to be kind of big so maybe one disk flip for each letter. My brain is working.... I don't know if my bluebird gets hot enough to fuse boro though. Research time....

I'll check that out too Boiseno, thanks

I could do a custom dicro image if you want?

How about a 8 or 10mm rod and write it in cursive. If you have a piece of cement board you can write it out and check your work on the layout.

How about write in cursive in tubing, some 12mm or something thin, and fill it with some glow liquid, I'd be stoked on that if I were a kid,...or an adult.

I like this idea for getting the name on there, but don't think you will be able to slump dichro on there without getting devit on the surface of your glass.

I would suggest getting a fused piece of dichro plate made from bullseye, inlay that into a nice piece of wood, then uv glue clear sculpted letters to that. Make each letter individually with a flattened back and a bit of dome to the front and it will magnify the dichro nicely

I'm glad I asked. There's some good ideas here, thanks for the input.

I haven't had time to think about it today, but when I make this thing I'll post pics.

Keep 'em coming!

Jared puts names in Belt Buckles he makes.. so you could do you one and put a hanger on the back. All of them are done in Boro with a thick clear cover to mirror the name.

When you look in the mirror things stand out.. Just magnify's
Thick clear makes things below it stand out..
