How much does it cost you guys to rent your tanks? And how much does it cost you to swap the empty cylinders for filled cylinders? Also say who you go through...

I own a K-tank (250 cf) and swap it every 2-3 days, so no rent info.

Today, I paid $17.52 to swap it.

That's the best price I can get, for the amount that I use.

around here they charge $27 to swap a (160cf) it all depends on where you go and your area..there is really bad price gauging for gases around here...can't rent tanks without great credit and they won't sell you larger then 160cf....the place that will rent you any tank around here wants to charge like 50 or 60 to exchange....oxygen is my most expensive overhead right now...

Its because I fill my own tanks. I would reconsider filling them if I paid $10.83

15 per K tank. Costs 15.00 to fill/exchange. I pay 45 a year to lease my tanks. I go though Maine Oxy.

My suggestions would be to open the phone book and find all the places to get oxy in your general area. Call them up one at a time and ask to speak to the sales manager for your area. Do not deal with the guy behind the counter answering the phone, he/she usually won't be able to get your price down, and will make it seem like the list price is the only price. Don't even mention your asking for the sales manager to get a better deal, just get their phone number (they're often on the road).

After you have the numbers for the sales managers for each company, start calling them. Explain that your going to be blowing glass, and plan on using quite a bit of oxygen in the future. Its OK to bend the truth a little and exadurate how much oxygen your going to be using, and tell them that your going to be in touch with all their competitors and will go with whomever can offer you the best price. When you really get started, depending on your torch and how often you use it you will be going through a rather large amount of oxygen, that fact will help you get a good price.

If your situation is anything like mine, a bidding war of sorts will start. It will probably take a few hours of making phone calls (it all depends on how many stores are in your area). Eventually you will end up with a price thats hopefully much lower than whatever you were originaly quoted.

My first tank cost me almost $60 just to fill. I made a few phone calls and now like I mentioned before I'm down to $15. I get to start the whole process over again soon as I'm switching to liquid.

Best of luck, if you can find any other glass blowers in your area, ask them what they're paying.

My truck holds 4 K tanks, I own 5. 1 place was charging me 60 for the 4 untill they got greedy and tried to charge me 80. I went to another place that hooks me up for 50 for the 4.

Do theu know ir a glassblower, stress the fact that u burn through alot more oxygen then the welder. Usually u cam negotiate a price. Ive been with airgas for 13 years now and each time i move airgas will initially ask 4 $30 per k, i simply tell them i burn through at least a tank a week and i usaully pay$18 ( it helps if u give them a figure) and they approve it no questions asked. Give it a shot.

Damn I went to airgas here since it was a couple blocks closer and it was like 400 for the rental and at that point I didn't even ask how much the fill was.

Nomad

I pay $100 deposit plus $100 year lease and $29.45 to exchange an oxy 200 at airgas in NY. This is a special price from the manager also.

Man do you have a scary appearance? Thats wierd but they do judge off that so ive heard in oregon. I get my 180l for 135 lasts me two months. Another blower in town with dirty dreads and carharts got quoted 400 from the same company.

Nomad
01-29-2013, 06:01 PM
My appearance? What are you talking about?
I think I am paying more than anyone for oxygen and I am the only one swearing by the new fuel efficient bethlehem bravo. Starts to make sence to me why. I pay more than twice the fuel bill others do.

I pay like 17.50 out the door for a T/300 at airgas but I have been buying welding supplies from the same guy for like 15 years so I get the good pricing.

glassaxis
01-29-2013, 06:12 PM
I can't believe that dude pays 100$ per cylinder..
I pay 13.50$ for K tanks. Liquid is like 130 with a 75$ a month rental at Pacific welding in Olympia. Airgas is more, and more annoying anyway.
Glassblowers get a deal here because we use a shitload of O2 and they love us.

Action Glass

Not you nomad forgot to add quote for the guy paying way too much. I think his price beats us all. The bravo is very efficient. Good thing its winter or my lox tank would be wasting itself.

If you pay 100 per fill its time to invest in a concentrator

Captain Glass

I don't have a scary appearance at all. If anything the chick that quoted me at airgas had the scary appearance. She was probably the captain of the softball team if you know what I mean.

Hey man, every team needs a slugger!

Nomad if it makes you feel any better, I'm in a suburb of Toronto and I've tried two companies, both want $45 a K-tank. That would add up soooo bloody fast, I run 3 concentrators with the Bravo and life is good.

Captain Glass

She was about as Dykey as you could get, the guy I deal with now is sick though he gave me free fills for a while but then he got in trouble. Cool old dude for sure

12.50 a fill for airgass 300cu
30/yr tank

Nomad

I would invest in a consentrator now if I had the space to put it in my studio and if they still sold the one I need at ABR. Not as much pressure as tanked O2 but you never run out and it is always available. So no down time. But you don't get as hot a flame with an oxygen consentrator.

Over here in Memphis its like 60 cents a day rental and $21 ish to fill a 122 cb. ft. I'm sure it would only be a couple dollars more to fill a 250. I have a oxycon that works for pendants and beads. But its pretty wimpy. I want one of the regalia's because its such a pain having a two stage torch and always have to crack my outter ports to prevent backfeed into the concentrator while I'm hitting my piece with an annealing flame!

You need like six hands to mess with this setup :)

Im in Albany NY. I pay $17 a swap per K tank. Rental is $38 for the year. Haun Welding. They started me out at $27 a swap but after a month or so they dropped my price. There was a $75 deposit on the tank rental but they waived it because I have good credit.

I use a homefill. It takes about about 20 hours to get a K tank up to around 1500psi but doesnt really matter. I have 3 tanks so one is always ready to go. I havent noticed any difference in the purity of the Oxy.
Ohh and did i mention ... ITS FREE. but for the few bucks in electricity.

I pay a $100 deposit, $12 a month rental and $27 fill for a K tank.

I just found a homefill with two concentrators at the estate sale of my neighbor that passed away last year. $600 for all of it...
Good by tank rental as I have a K tank that I can not exchange. I bought it before I knew about the markings on the neck problems...

I'm so happy. I just signed up with Matheson yesterday for $9.50 a K swap. I own my own tanks, so no rental fees.

It was crazy. I didn't even show them a receipt of what I was getting it for at Airgas or anything. The sales manager just straight offered it to me. I really needed that though, I've been having horribly bad luck lately.
