Bates has worked as the executive designer for Hitman Glass for the past 6 months+. They have a licensing agreement for his designs.

They have been using glass torches for over 20 years in the semiconductor field. The need to have no contaminants in there fabrication process of semiconductor quartz. Metal hand torches and metal v burners were replaced with glass. I have made alot of these quartz torches that burn hydrogen and oxygen. Bates torch is just another style. Cool torch just be careful to not drop it or brake it because the fuel will ignite and cause a fire.

Everyone keeps saying these torches are bombs... sure, I guess.

But if you're dropping a lit 3k glass torch you deserve a little fireball.

like 10-12 years ago W&W said they were at a demo for the torch industry . I guess those blue flame things were there and the guys were talkin shit on the 2 brothers that made torches in their garage. one of the Ws walked up and used it then took their garage made torch and melted the thing in front of the blueflame guys, guess they shut up after that.

Those things are just for heating up ti pads/balls right? Thats why their butane?

And yea I was thinking that too, that if you dropped one it make a hell of a fireball with all the butane in there..

I have a quartz torch... 2 of them actually... from a quartz fab. I guess once the quartz bloom on them hits a certain point the flame gets a little messy and they replace them... I'd love to have a clean new one.

The quartz torches are surface mix using fuel gas (or hydrogen) and compressed oxygen.

The Bates torches are naturally aspirated torches using butane and a venturi aspirator.

I just saw pics of the Casto x Bates and the Darby x Bates torches, they're sickness.

This is one of my quartz torches... I need a manifold on it.

Nice little torch. Do you ever use it? Or is it more of a convo piece?

its got a terrible flame on it, I just hooked it up to take a picture. It might work well for a soft glass torch with the gases turned down lower. Also, it's made for hydrogen, so the port sizes are wrong for propane... I might go get a small tank of hydrogen tho, see if it works much better.

Ah... Was curious if running it on pro would work. Was not aware that different port sizes would be an issue. This is one of the reasons I love this site, always learning something new.

Mike, I don't think they posted them yet... they're on Castos phone. I suspect they're going to A.G.E.

That is awesome.

I've wondered for a while if that would work or not.
