Hey everyone!! Im just not getting out of the navy and i should be home in a few weeks. Im stationed in seattle right now and i must say that i am very impressed with the glass work ive seen out here!! I might consider moving here in the future. But for now, im headed back to north carolina to get crankin on my glass work again and livin the life ive missed for quite some time now. I have touched a piece of glass in almost TWO YEARS!!! I still think about it every day and my mind is overflowing with fresh ideas i want to try. So heres what i need from you!

I need any willing person to help me out with a list of things i should buy to get started back into the game. I really like to buy my stuff at a place that i can see and hold each piece so i have an idea of what im working with, but i kinda just want to have all the materials at the studio by the time i get home so i can just get started on some projects. So if any of you are avid internet buyers then i am in need of your expertise. I just want a 500 dollar limit right now. I should be able to flip that really easy and i just want enough stuff to get started for a little bit. I will be making pipes (primarily bowls, hammers and sherlys), inside out beads, tube implosions and other small items. I wont be sculpting or working with any coe above the 30 range. Please give me a good idea of what to buy and who to buy from! Sorry if this is too vague, i can give additional information of anybody needs it.

Im sure i could do this by myself, but ive been out of the loop for a while and i bet theres more than a few people on this forum that could introduce me to something better then i already know. So any insight is welcome!

Thanks glass addicts!

Abr and mountain glass arts are both having some awesome sales right now. Buy some clear tube, some northstar odd's, and maybe some china colored tube. take advantage of the sales!

There are a bunch of lampworking starter kits from various vendors, most have a good list of the essentials

I would get one 1/2 case 1'" heavy wall @ 90$ or so
one 1/2 case 6mm rod at 100$ or so
one 1/2 case 8mm rod at 80$ or so
1/2 to a few blowtubes--- 9.5mm heavy wall up to 15.9mm how ever you want 50$

then color- you may want some 44mm for inside/out or 50mm for tube pulls

then the rest on color

Is the $500 for torch and equipment as well as for glass and color? A bit light if so.

If you want to see it before you buy it, go over to Mountain Glass in Ashevile. There may be other retailers closer to you, but I don't know them. And they DO have great sales and often.

That is just for the glass. And if it helps to know, im working with a nortel redmax w/ minor top mount. I would love to go to the store when i get home, but i would also like the glass to be waiting on me for when i do get home. Im in the seattle area right now and im traveling back to north carolina.

Thanks for the help so far! I still consider myself a noob even though ive been doing it for a few years! haha

Your welcome to come up to Trev's Glass and pick out your glass and we can ship it for you.. Probably most of what you will need is here in the store and we are not that far from you.. We see Seattle blowers here every week..
Friday tho we will be in the Oregon Friday at the Eugene Glass School Flameoff.

I can say from personal experience that Mountain Glass Arts has a nice website and fast shipping and their staff are helpful if you need to order over the phone. I live a few states away from them so my packages always arrive 2 business days after I order, might get to you even faster - they use UPS by default. I ordered my whole kit from them and my glass is always intact, my tools are always correct. I wish I could have gotten my fans and shit from them too. Good luck.
