So I a getting a studio in a downtown location, with a nice big window in front...so what's the deal with people walking by and veiwing? Will I be blinding the town cause they don't have dids on? I am thinking not...I have been to a flameoff in lv and most pople walking around did not...some ease me mind...always tks...

It's prolonged exposure you need to worry about. Someone walking by and stopping for a min to watch isn't in any danger.

6+ feet and the hazardous radiation is so minimal you'd have to stand there for hours every day to do any damage unless you've already got some kind of eye condition...

also, plate glass blocks a lot of IR, and some UV. (or the other way around, I forget which)

That's what I wanna know, nosey fuckers. Zap the pest's eyes w/ a laser just to be sure. If you're running a herbie w/o air no worries, their eye's will be melting out their sockets.

Oh, wait, you WANT people staring at you all day with their dopey eyed stare? That'll change. When it does, keep a dead fish stashed out front, 'at'll keep em at bay.

Fuckin people, all ruinin the view an shit.

dude, I just got an Idea. Cover up the windows, exept for 2 or 3 portholes. That way they can still watch, and you get entertained by them. Make sure to put one porthole up just a little high for a 6' person and one way low at the bottom. Matter of fact, make 3 portholes. All at the bottom. Shit would be hysterical, people all bendin over an shiat tryin to peek in. Put a sign above the holes that says PORN with an arrow pointing at the holes. Take pictures. Hell yeah, now you got me wanting a window spot downtown.

I agree with Doug. No real problem with the light for 'long distance' viewing.

My torch is set up to point at the window. After the first few months, when I went to clean the glass I noticed a few dozzen tiny glass balls imbedded in the surface of the plate glass. I figure the balls that form and fly when a thread is melted were flying the 6' with enough residual heat to stick. Thermal shock, anyone? No visible problems yet, but I put up a 2'x2' sheet of single strength window glass over the target area just in case. Disposable.

Now if I could just get a nice number of lookers, maybe some would come inside and browse. And maybe some of those would actually become customers. Or maybe I'm just dreaming :(

I would just put a simple sign that says if you eyes hurt then stop staring at the flame

I have a friend wroth a smoke shop and he has his torch (mag) right in front, and people watch through the window all day no prob. Maybe you could get a diddy strip for your window or something.

As an old school glassblower I've worked in public for over 30 yrs and never caused a problem. It's a great hook, people are drawn to the flame like moths.

Zombie alert.

FWIW, I'd get a small sheet of didy to mount on the window so folks can see the difference.

Wow old thread...didn't there used to be a rule about resurrecting old threads? :devilish: J/K

Anywho, Doug's answer is the best.

I'd be a tad concerned if the torch was right next to the window, 3' or less, but most windows these days are double strength glass, and some are even laminated to prevent BB gun punctures. The only thing getting through that is the sodium flare, and that's not hazardous. Over 4-6' and there's the square of the distance reduction in hazard plus the thermal barrier of the window glass. Nothing to worry about here.

it's frowned upon to bump old sales threads. otherwise, have at it. there are plenty of gems in this place.
