if u got a few furnaces i would make some double dipped colors like candy apple or alien tech. Also nice striking colors like AP are good or u could do a bunch of blue caramel and blast it..With furnaces anything is possible

All depends on your budget and ventilation.
Some cullet is like 18 an lb..... Other colors with more expensive chemicals/ heavy metals can cost like twice as much ie unobtaniuam at like $35.
When it comes to filling up a 30 lb crucible it is going to run you like $450-900 a day to keep it full and empty it.
Also, at 2300-2400 all types of nasty chemicals are boiling out of the glass and into the air of your shop space. Abe has told me some colors have hella silver ....ap has like 1 lb silver to 30 lb glass. Imagine fuming with a POUND of silver in a shop with booty ventilation. Remember Daniel trilli.
For instance all the greens have mad chromium, which is a heavy metal that will poison you very quickly.
Campy is right, you can do anything with a pot of molten glass. I melted over 2400 lb of glass to create a life size stalactite cave out of boro.
Not trying to shoot ya down, you are THE MAN, just trying to pass on the hazmat info I've been given since these furnaces don't come with a training course.
Can't wait to see what you start making. Furnace pulled color fully worked toros?!!! Better send a memo to all the tc kids to start robbing banks now to save up. You definitely now have the key to unlock to door to the next level. In my opinion the best use of the furnace is to drill mix unique blends to Create limited run colors that no one else has. I would also say save a few pieces of tube from each run because it can be hard to make the same mixed color twice, even if you write down the recipe.
Have fun. Stay safe. Don't blow your whole bankroll on one project like I did.
Hope that helps.
Wow...Thank you 4 your help... good thing I installed a hood and powerful ventilation above my furnaces. just like a soft glass studio!!! over 4600 cfm's...lol... good thing I install radiant heated floors. it gets really cold out here... thanks for looking out brother!! (; my local hospital has over 40,000 dollars of my money from the last year and a half. 30 visits to the emergency room finally found out I had a gluten allergy!!! so I appreciate your concern. thank you!!!
you should talk to abe maybe, he has the info you want... all day long!

hey jp
if i were you, i'd melt a bunch of chinese glass just to get the hang of it and play around. seeing as most first attempts at anything suck, might as well not blow a lot of cash in the process.

No big deal I'll just wait for j-red to come to my studio teach me how to use these furnaces... I've been waiting for 3 months now.. what's another couple months.... I just love having my money tied up in things that I can use!!!:bangHead:

If 30 # of AP had 1 # of silver in it........
30 # @ $20-$25/wholesale # = $600-$750
1 # of silver @ $41.50/oz spot = $664
It cant add up, sure it has a lot of silver, but sure not a pound.........

yo JP, me and SNIC been running a boro furnace pulling our own tubing for at least six months now, come down anytime and use it, i could go off on how awesome they are, its rediculous, i love it so much, best thing to do is just call Abe, he sorted me out, chatted me thru all the nuances of the process, and obviously knows alot about what colors you really wanna be fucking with etc...
Good luck man, cant wait to see what you make.

Abe -please chime in here.
Jp- check your pm inbox..... Sent you a message.
Also- everyone.... Through my 2 year journey through the crucible I ended up igniting several hoodies doing large gathers from intense radiant heat and gathering from above as opposed to in front of (ie soft glass)
Developed fireproof hoodies this summer. Extensively tested with bonfires, Bunsen burners, bho explosions, the GTT python and several other large 3 stage GTT torches. Worked out some kinks in the design and just now having embroidery work done.......dropping September 1 .
Look out for redwood empire.....
Custom fireproof hoodies available.... Contact me via pm or email me at redwoodempireglass@gmail.com

Start smashing those iso fumed spoons.... They're probably worth more for their silver content right now......
Hopefully abe chimes in to back me up :)
