Hey guys, I got a quick question. I'm out of oxygen, and can't get any more delivered until Monday. A friend of mine called and said that he has a full Medical tank I can have. I've never even looked at a medical tank. Does anyone know if My regulator will even attach to it? I know that I could just go look at it and see, but with today's gas prices, I kinda hate to drive 20 miles just to find out if it would work. Anybody have any knowledge about this?

Why don't you look at it this way. Go for a nice drive to visit your friend have a cup of coffee, having out and catch up, chew some tobacco and shoot the breeze. As an aside have a look at his tank. It's nice to have friends to catch up and hang out with :)

They don't have the same type of connections as welding tanks. But yes, if you can get it attached to your torch, it's oxygen.

They are usually much smaller than a standard welding size tank a glass blower would use and you would blow through it quicker than shit, plus the hassel of rigging it up.

The only diff is the the threads prob come strait off the top of the med tank. They should in my exp be the same size threading and all. You will blow through it fast though and a welding supply shop won't exchange it. Med ox is expensive.

Those medical tank probably hold about 5 mins of oxy depending on what torch yeh use. On the side note wtf 20 miles aint that far :P go visit your friend.

Most common medical oxygen tank valve/connector is like the one on the right, the CGA 870 style.

What is most commonly valve/connector used in welding and lampwork is the one on the left, the CGA 540.

IF 20 miles is all that is between you and your friend, he must not be very important to you, GO SEE HIM.
