good day,

Anyone KNOW what kinda glue we use in electroforming?

I electroplated some lizards and wanna stick them to a piece I made.
Isearched the previous threads for a while now before asking here, and I reaally wanna know.

big thanks,

are you electroforming once you've attached the lizards? You can just use epoxy and them paint conductive paint over it and then electroform over that. The metal will strengthen the attachment and even if eventually the glue does fail (which all glue eventually does) your attached pieces won't come off. Alternatively, you can get solder glue, which can be used for solderlessly closing a circuit instead of hot soldering. It has graphite in it and I've tried it out and it works for electroforming, however it takes a very long time to set. Personally I think the first suggestion is probably your best bet.

WOW, thanks

In this case the lizards are already electroplated but the piece is not, i was going to glue the lizzards to the branch on the piece then copper paint around that connection and then electroplate the whole thing, so the lizards, part of the branch and part of the piece are all electroformed...

For the Epoxy, I already use 2 ton, 2 part mix, clear epoxy for other things so it would be great if that epoxy will work, or do you know what kind of epoxy will work if not that kind?

Devcon brand is the best 2 part, they make a 5 minute, and a regular. I always use the 5 minute, this is great for glass to glass, not glass to wood. Silicone is good for some applications, but you have to lay the piece down and prop it up etc..etc.. as its curing time is longer, full cure in 20 hrs. still moveable in 20 minutes to reposition it if it slides off. I've had glued pieces still together 20 years later with silicone glass on glass, so not all glue eventually fails, its in the application Aussie. Got pics Jes?

I know what you're saying, I've got a glass shadow box which is held together with UV glue and it's lasted for 15 years now and being used in an indoors setting, I'm sure it will last for a long while, yet. But while it may not fail in my lifetime, it will eventually fail ... Sure, silicone may last longer in certain applications, but it will fail eventually, too. This is just the nature of things.

For your application, Jes, any kind of glue will most likely do the job, even superglue, as long as you can paint your conductive paint on. You only need it to last long enough to electroform over it and deposit some metal. The metal will then keep your piece in place and the glue will no longer be particularly important after that.
