The Aeolipile - for when you just feel like effin' around for a bit...

A steam engine was posted recently, which led me to the wikipedia page on steam engines, which led me to this aeolipile (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeolipile) page, so I thought I'd try making one out of glass last night. Good times!
Sorry about the crappy camera work, it's my phone. You get the idea though.

sick !! i could see maybe some oils or natural fragrances being added to rapidly distribute them at say a festival or something. and say 3 or 4 of them spinning together wafting dancing hippy folk with frankincense myrrh would have a certain intensity to it :D

awesome, I ran across this awhile back too. good job actually making one, I would only attempt it if I wanted one myself. How did you get the water in the piece, did you pour it in one of the little jet tubes?

To get the water in I used a syringe meant for refilling ink cartridges.
I can't stop playing with this thing, I'm getting nothing done today.

My guess was a downstem type of setup so you can just put a rod through the whole thing, but that was just a guess.
