As some of you know Greymatter Glass was the victim of a break in on x-mas day.

http://www.talkglass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42083

It pains me to think of this happening to any lampworker or any entrepreneur/artist espescially on Christmas. In the spirit of X-mas i am starting this thread to help Doug recover some of his losses...i will start by offering this bubbler shipped in which you can sell or enjoy, the goal is to raise as many glass donations up to the 20,000 which was lost...my piece i would value around $100.00 wholesale
(1 of 1 in this style signed)...thats $19,900 to go....Whos Next!

this piece was made in October and displayed at Glassroots show. I need to make a slide today as i broke the other...if you got a blast cabinet...you would have to blast the slide to make it match...as i dont have a cabinet to do it here...best of luck.

well i got a message back from doug...this is part of it

As much as I appreciate the offer I can't accept any donations, it wouldn't feel right. The outpouring of support from the industry has been awesome and overwhelming and it's more than I can ask for. Keeping us in your thoughts is worth more than what was lost. The best way to help us right now would be to stay vigilant and keep an eye open for any of the glass from our shop, as well as just staying on top of all the shop breakins and general bafoonery that's going around right now.

soooo thanks to yall who stepped up you guys rock...goes to show what a community we really have...

Oh thanks I was going to post that up.

I appreciate the offers but I just can't accept.

I would be happy to trade with anyone for their work, but lets do it equitably, and give me a few days to get back into things.

Keep supporting our industry, that's all I ask.

Also, the $20k was in damages and lost product from everyone in the shop.... I am in no way out of pocket all of that all the sudden. My business has insurance and I am working with them to see what will and will not be covered, but the reality is that my collection was priceless to me, and the theft of work from Casto, Denial, and Rashan is a large part of that sum.

We have a great network of local shops and buyers that are going to do what they can to absorb some of this and really just patience and understanding on getting orders re-filled is a huge support.

Fizzle, you rock and that's a beautiful piece, please use it to support your own career and family.

It really sucks that bad things happen to good people. Too bad you weren't in the shop at the time to bust a few caps in their asses (or chest). A few .223 rounds would have been a wonderful Christmas gift for those scumbags.

Stay strong Doug, and I hope you are able to recover your things.

Great story here in Indiana recently. Last week, a robber came into a Kroger grocery store, in the middle of a busy holiday rush(store full of people). He put something into a female employee's back, and led her to the cash office. The manager on duty, saw it on the cameras, and had a piece on him. As soon as the door opened to the office, he shot the robber in the face and killed him!!! Not the chest, not the side of the head, THE FACE!!!

Now he's being investigated internally by Kroger for breaking company policy, which bans employees from having guns on Kroger property. He was not charged legally in anyway. If Kroger fires or penalizes him, I'll never shop there again :D

If interested, google it.....there's a million stories online.

Thanks for the uplifting story Dave. The best thing about shooting a scumbag in the face is that you deny them the respect of an open casket funeral :)

I guess Kroger only wants the criminals to have guns in the store... that sucks.

I apologize if I offended anyone, but I am a firm believer in self defense and the right to bear arms. I'm just glad that if someone had to go down, it was the bad guy.

Yup, I'm all for the full right to defend yourself, loved ones, and property.

This just happened here in NC this morning.

Okay, let's not get started.

request to forum management:

Please split the gun comments to a separate post. I am finding I have some shit I want to say but...this is NOT the right place. I think the Original Poster had a different mission for this topic.

I merely posted about that local news story, as it pertained to robbery....which was being discussed. If it offended anyone, sorry. I didn't mean for it to be uplifiting or whatever.

Yeah, well.

Greymatter are a hard working crew of responsible guys, I'm sure they've got this under control. Glad to hear insurance covers some of it, at least. I hadn't heard any mention of insurance up til now and wasn't sure whether to bring it up!

Good for you for starting this thread Fizzle. One of the best things about the glass community is how we stand up to support each other.
