I've contemplated joining for the past 3 years and I think I'm gunna do it this year. For all you members, is it as cool as I think it will be (I'm into scientific)?? Are there lots of useful vids and reports that are awesome?? How bout the gatherings?

Thanks for your time and input!
Josh

The ASGS is pretty cool. The meetings are pretty much what you think it would be, a bunch of middle aged scientific workers hanging around talking shop, drinking beer, occasionally watching demo's. Some meetings in my section are better than others, the meeting at Carlisle probably being the best of the bunch. And fusion is a pretty awesome publication, I would probably join for that resource alone.

^carlisles cool, but scc is better

Anyway, go to the website and find the next meeting in your section, and if you can make it to the symposium, I've heard it's one of the coolest events in glass blowing

Cool gys thx! I would love to attend the symposium, but NY is pretty far from me...maybe for a graduation present to myself.

I attended a small meeting in Rochester earlier this year. It was fun, not mindblowin but there were some interesting presentations and I think it would be a good group to belong too. I do bet the larger meetings are worth attending.

I guess I have been an ASGS member the longest on this board so here is the scoop.

You will get out of the ASGS what you put into it!

Try to make it to the symposium this year it is at Corning,NY that should motivate you if you are really hooked on glass. Every lampworker should go to Corning at least once it's our heritage.

Look me up if you make it.

hey barry corning's close to me, i bet i could make it down for a day at least. which day looks like the good one to hit up? i'd do the whole thing, but i have a couple shows right before that, GAS, and two weeks teaching in japan. if i leave for anything else this summer, i won't have a wife to come home to!! ;) but i bet i can squeeze in a day trip

Agent J Happy New Year

Friday night will be art demos and then the auction that is usually lots of fun. I'm not going to catch the whole symposium just two days.

Send me an email with your schedule for the year I am going to put together a small invitational in my building this summer. Just some casual fun for a few days to do some prodo with friends.
