Is leaving a garage door open in a small duplex single car garage enough air exchange?
Or do I need to use a fan to vent out of my garage?

fan you can open it to make up your air ... but you must draw the air over your back or atleast over the torch...

With that much space, I use three fans. One at the vent drawing air in, one behind me, and one at the duct going out.
I can't have the door open while I'm torching. Neighbors,:rolleyes

You probably need some sort fan and a outlet for bad air... If there is no motion, room will create a pocket of stagnant air. You NEED to have some circulation... Putting a fan neat door to push in fresh air would be a great step to better ventilation. "Designed" and installed ventilation would be best, but if situation (rented space) does not allow it do the best you can with big fan...

Remember any heavy metals and contaminates in flame/gas plume will stay in room (with out air movement) and the contaminates will eventually settle out of air and eventually coat or contaminate everything is the space...

attic fans have a suggested opening for fresh air intake printed right on the box for effective use...that would be your best bet i think, a nice vent fan in a window and an opening for freshy air. wouldnt have to leave the door open either, you dont want people peepin that shit. or a blower on the roof and a stright pipe to a small hood, still needing the intake though, that would be way pimp. zig

I have had two different glass blowers tell me, "I cough up blood when I fume gold." I have never expeienced this, as I care for my health and have proper ventalation. Another concern with glass blowing is glass dust. You create some eveytime you use a glass knife or a set of nippers. If is is small enough to get airborne, you want it to go out, fast. Silicosis is a bitch.

Yeah its going to be impossible to vent properly where I live I guess.

I think Ill just move it into my buddies shed where I can set up a nice venting system.

Thanks for the info.

i'd still do it in your garage where you pay for your own house for convenience...it definitely can be done effectively and not cost you that much. Zig
