I called the dude to see about some of the tools. He said he got lead poisoning from blowing glass, and the reason he's selling his stuff is because he needs at least 3 medical treatments that are not covered by insurance. The treatments are a grand each time, and he needs to come up with the money for them.

I didn't get anything from him as he's hoping to sell it all at once, but he seemed like a good person on the phone. I understand what your saying about that's not how etsy works, but he's got enough problems going on that I wouldn't want to add to them over something that didn't cost me anything.

bullshit stories like that lead me to suspect the stuff is stolen....but there is a lot of craptacular pipes in his feedback section, so maybe he just doesn't want to admit that glass blowing isn't as fun a hobby as he thought it was and took too much time to get good at so he gave up.

I see that $1 thing all the time on craigslist, and it seems equally as stupid on there, too. It's a marketing ploy to get you to look at their shit.

I have no idea if what he said is bullshit or not, but he certainly seemed to know what he was talking about in terms of his medical condition.

I only called him because I was in his area for a couple of weeks and I thought about getting the marble molds and grabbers.

I've been talking to him... I don't think it's lead, I think it's probably some kind of metal fume fever or other metal toxicity. He worked boro for 3 years without ventilation...besides the fact that there's no lead in boro, there ARE nasty things in glass and flame....

anyways... I guess it's legit, but hopefully he gets his doctors to do a hair test and some other stuff before they put him on dialysis and chelation.
