Oh, what the hell. I'm already in the pendant swap and the marble swap. Might as well do a pipe swap too. Plus, it might get me some other artists pieces in my collection. I'm in.

this turned into a fiasco last time becuase it became quite apparent that wholesale values are quite different from artist to artist.
if you are gonna try it then i would suggest narrowing it down to a certain type of piece and even then you are gonna get a very wide range of quality. this will lead to the same issues that were present the last time most likely though.
good luck with it.
I don't think there should be a monetary value put on a trade like this. As GWS pointed out this caused a lot of trouble with the last one. Personally if I were going to be trading pieces with the artists I have learned from and look up to I'd certainly step my game up and produce something that I can be proud of for such a trade. Probably something I couldn't sell for what it'd be worth to me.
I don't think trades like these are about getting super heady high $$ pieces. It's about building relationships with other professionals in our industry. I'm in if it happens and I pledge I'll make something that I can give to another glassblower and be proud of.

Im in, I would love to add to my collection.
The idea of it being a spoon, hammer or bubbler trade is more apealing to me also.

id suggest having all the pieces shipped to one location. then resent that way everyone that plays get a piece and extremely lopsided trades can be prevented.
i'll toss something in on this one. not too worried about what I get in return as long as it was made by someone other than me it will be easier for me to enjoy rather than scrutinize.

I can agree with you here. This would be safe, however it would mean starting a "pipe trade" thread. Someone would have to step up and be the mediator. Not to mention people will have to make several pieces.
I kinda wanted to make a private agreement with another person or two, or one at a time. Follow through with the arrangment and move on to the next one.
Otherwise I would LOVE to do a prodo pipe trade. It would be great to have a shelf of everyones prdo work, cause god know we all do em.

I think a sherly trade would be cool, keep it strickly some locks dry or wet. Then get somebody to host, I will if nobody else wants to. Then ship them with to the host with address labels and reshipping payment just like the other swaps. a couple weeks ago I even thought a dish and dabber swap because almost everybody makes them or could.

does it have to be sherlocks?
If so me and probably a few others wont be able to particapate,
prodo spoons is the best idea so far.

Prodo spoons (clean welds, excellent ratios, dynamic colors, perfect hole placement etc to show an artists ability to be consistent & produce beautiful pieces) would be the best solution to a simple exchange.
And if someone isn't quite up to par, I don't see why they couldn't contribute a nice clean UNUSED piece from the collection. That way, everyone could play. If its a little heady, cool. If its simply a perfect prodo piece, then that's cool too. The minute $$$ is placed anywhere near a piece of art, someone is going to get butt hurt, because they got 'jipped'.
My 2.5 cents anyways.

how bout this.....
send to my store what you are willing to trade. say we pick a date to be shipped by. i can have fizzle or someone else thats in the industry that is local to me, help me decide what are worthy trades so no one gets screwed. a problem i see with that is shipping costs back for the trades..........
or we just scratch the trade all together and someone can just trade me a nicer smaller head peice for the like? i just want something new in my limited collection and have one of mine added to someone elses.
i didnt relize this happend before and people flaked.

this one kinda worked i gotta cool lil pipe from rickert http://www.talkglass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32953&highlight=pipe+exchange
if we can find a way to weed out the flakes I am down also .cause I am pretty sure some peeps got screwed on this.
I think the way glassdoc is hosting the marble and pendent exchange is the safest ....everybody send said piece to reputable person WITH return shipping monies included...and just make it an open trade .Meaning if you are down ,you are willing to get whatever is sent to you..cause like it was already said when you start putting monetary value people feel gipped...only requirement is that it has to be a sellable pipe..other suggestions?

We'd love to trade as well, there are quite a few artist on here that I would love to have in my collection. ^_^
why don't you just post the piece you want to trade, and then others can post what they are offering you for your piece, and then you can pick the one you like best. Biased, sure but it is strait forward.

I agree 100%. That way you're not just sending something off with absolutely no idea what you're going to get in return.
I also agree with ithruxix. Whether it's w/r prodo, blow-in, frit, ISO, whatever. The shaping should be on point with nice size holes all around. A huge mouthpiece hole can ruin a good looking pipe, as can a huge bowl hole or a pinhole carb.
With all this being said, i'd love to own a spoon made by another member on here.

ill take charge. people interested in trading..........
send the piece you want to trade to my store with shipping to the next person included. if shipping isnt included i will consider it a donation to my store. (im not sticking my money into shipping anything but the piece im sending) ill go thru them and find some what equal trades and send them off. THEY MUST BE TO MY STORE BY THE LAST DAY OF THIS MONTH! then i can get the swaps worked out and sent off so everyone should get their return piece by 4-20. if the pieces get to my store later than april 1st i will send them back to the artist who made it. please include the name you go by in the glass industry and your mp screen name. pieces must be on point. no jankness. no bad mouth pieces or big or small bowl holes or the like wise with carb holes.
DEADLINE IS MARCH 31ST which is a saturday. make sure you give yourself ample for shipping so your piece doesnt end up as a donation to my store.
fair enough?

yea this has been attempted before.. Turned into a shit show of "unworthy pieces" and people flaking out. It really was bad.. Kudo's to you if you actually get this going, but newbs, please realise, NOBODY wants one of your jank pieces.. Just saying the truth. By entering this swap you are most likely going to be pissing off whomever get your piece. Not trying to be a downer to you guys, but it really is the truth.

why not post pics of each pipe and have the group who wants to trade vote on each one. Then do the trade according to score.. ie the top two pipes are traded, then the next two and so on. seems reasonable to me

Wishy washy isn't it. We are a loose band of individuals that don't fit the mainstream, have vision, passion, skill, curiosity, and an appreciation of our peers work and a genuine interest in pretty much anything that sounds fun.
We are also broke for the most part, and tend to let the first paragraph get in the way of deadlines and business commitments. Life comes at you fast, and trade for god-only-knows-what deadlines come even faster.
DONT SEND THEM TO MY STORE.......IM OUT!
Kudos for stepping up to begin with, but this will be a fantastic decision you will never regret.

These massive trades seemed to be cursed. It always seem to end in drama, someone slacking, and Person A gets pissed, cause they put in their time and made a nice piece to send to person B, now they're just waiting for their piece from person C to arrive, but Person C has some serious shit crop up in their life lately, and now they don't have an internet connection, and their rent is due, and they're out of glass, etc...
The trade Nodice and Coal did seems to be the way to go about it.
One person offers an item for trade and another person shows what they have willing to trade. The first person either accepts or rejects. Once an offer has been accepted, it's locked into these two people, and they are in charge of getting their pieces to one another.
That way there is only two links in the chain that could fail. If you have a twenty person chain, that's an awful lot of links to count on, and one bad one messes it up for multiple people.
Btw, I received my piece from nodice yesterday! This worked out great. It was fun, easy, not to mention its all out there for everyone to see, kinda holding the traders to keep integrity and honesty to follow through. If not one of the parties can post in the thread.
This was fun, I just wish we could start getting more people to do it like this. Im kinda on a "want to collect others glass" kick now anyway.

Aw, shit... eff this mess and trade with me, straight up. I'd love me a Crip piece!
This sucked last time because some people think adding 10 - $5 marbles to a $10 sherlock makes it a $60 piece. It doesnt. Sometimes people have inflated opinions of the value of their work. Some might be ok getting a janky piece in a trade, most wont. There is tons of red tape with shipping and people's location/age/whatnot. Its best to do pipe trades in private.
Feelings get hurt and people get pissed when these go public.

Oh snap its the impossible trade deal.
fully worked shit in P-town goes for the same price as clear prodo in the bum fucks.
A trade based on Value is really regional, and anybody that gets going and starts making stuff thinks any bub is worth a 50 at least its a bubbler,LOL
Just start a thread called the I want to fight about wholesale pricing and shitty welds thread.
I would be balls out in for a dabber trade thread , I would even host it and buy a banner at the top of page if the dabbers sick ta death!
