ATTENTION GLASS ARTISTS:
The Michigan Glass Project needs your art donations.
The Michigan Glass Project is committed to bringing the glass community together. We are offering several ways for artists to participate in this year's event. This is our opportunity to build positive, lasting relationships within the glass community while at the same time donating money and resources to organizations in the Detroit area. The proceeds from our events this year will be donated to the Belle Isle Aquarium via the Belle Isle Conservancy (www.belleisleconservancy.org).
We will have a receiving station set up at our main event, June 15th-17th, allowing you to simply bring your donations with you to the party. If you will not be attending our June event we will be accepting shipped donations to our offices arriving no later than June 14th. Donations can also be dropped off at The Urban Pheasant Glass Studio located at the Russell Industrial Center in Detroit. If you are having difficulties getting your donations to us please let us know so that we can assist you. Since we are a non-profit organization, you can deduct the value of your donated art from this year’s taxes!
Our address is:
The Michigan Glass Project
150 Lange
Troy, MI 48098
The Michigan Project will be organizing a series of silent auctions, with the primary reception and auction being held at the Belle Isle Aquarium during the month of October. The proceeds from these events will go to the Belle Isle Aquarium. Your donated art will be photographed and promoted through our website and in our 2012 DVD. This is a terrific opportunity for artists to gain some exposure in the booming art scene here in the Midwest. We appreciate all the support that we can get and look forward to a great year in the ever-growing glass community.
We want to encourage everyone to attend our event on June 15th-17th in Detroit where we will be collaborating on multiple aquatic themed pieces to be displayed and sold with proceeds going to the Belle Isle Aquarium. We will have several flame working stations set up at this event for artists to participate. This 3-day event is a great time to mingle with others in our glass community and we will be offering music, live painting, food, and drink. Keep checking www.themichiganglassproject.com for a schedule of events as we near the date of this grand event.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
Kristen Key
Artistic Donation Coordinator

It's looking like we have one hell of a local roll call. Big ups to Michigan Crew.
^Crayven, Toledo is 40 minutes away from Detroit. We planned it to be the same weekend in hopes that we can expose the flameworking scene to some of the GAS demographic. Not only are we trying to strengthen our local community, but build a bridge between the different glass worlds. The line up is looking super tight. I really appreciate the offer for a "small" piece and looking forward to meeting you and seeing what you got.

We are hosting two Michigan mini projects this month. The first is in conjunction with the Russell Industrial Center on Saturday, April 14th in a studio wide open house. Several dozen artists will have their studio doors open for demonstration and display of works for sale. The hours are from noon to midnight. We will be collaborating on public display and working on several pieces at once.
The second is on April 20th from noon to midnight. We will be getting together without the public and busting out some serious pieces. Glassblowers of all medium and skill levels are encouraged to attend. We will be constructing pieces with an open forum for ideas and production styles. These events are created with the intent of strengthening our local glass community and expanding boundaries. Please join us. Works are to be donated to the Michigan Glass Project. Hit us up with a like on Facebook and get in the loop.

I almost forgot to add that Sepulworld will be demonstrating his elusive wooden punty technique right after his fruit roll up lampshade workshop at the projects secondary annex location at Dexter and Linwood on the city's north side. You must preregister for the the workshop as space is limited due to location. This is a VIP only event.

The Michigan Glass Project presents
"DEGENERATE ART: THE ART AND CULTURE OF GLASS PIPES"
A Film By: M. Slinger
Movie Trailer:http://www.degenerateartfilm.com/trailer.html
"Degenerate Art" tells the story of glass pipe-making from the origins of the "color-changing" pipe, to the radical emerging art movement it has become today. Despite federal laws, pipe-makers have created a whole new genre of American folk art. A huge multi-million dollar industry has formed around this taboo culture. This subversive art challenges our right to free speech and expression, as well as reflecting the nature of the people who make and collect the pieces. One of the last true underground American scenes, glass pipe art remains invisible to mainstream culture.

The Michigan Glass Project is associated with the Colorado Project, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to unite the artistic glass community through charitable events that showcase the talent and culture of Michigan. The Michigan Glass Project is gearing up for this year's three-day fundraising collaborations. Artists from around the globe will come together to make collaborative aquatic-based themed installations. Proceeds from the sale of the installations, along with silent auction art work and monetary donations will go towards re-opening the Belle Isle Aquarium.
Sponsored by: 42 Degrees, Glasscraft, Glassroots Art Show, Urban Pheasant Glass and Eastside Sprouts
We will be announcing the final line up and list of events this week. Thanks for taking time to checking this out.

Get to Detroit if you can. We intend on balling out pretty hard and raising a stack of cash for the Belle Isle Aquarium. We have a ton of events planned around the project and are excited to show people our city. GAS is going on at the same time 40 minutes away in Toledo which gives us an oppurtunity to expose soft glass makers to our community. Slinger playing his movie on Sunday is going to be a big exclamation point and gives us a platform for discussion. You never know who is going to walk through the door at these things. This is going to be fun. We have a solid line up and are going to make piles of amazing glass. Hope to see all you there. My name is Drew, make sure to introduce yourselves if you make it.

Ok guys and gals, we are about a week out from the project and we need everyone coming to have a good idea of how this is going to happen. We will have 15 torches set up with a sign up board for blow slots. When you arrive please sign up and bring your A game. We are looking for a few things. We would like everyone to be productive as possible with their torch time. We ask that people come with a little prep for their pieces and keep in mind to make things they know they can land and that we can sell. Byron B will be heading up a glass on glass slide bench so that we can stack a big grip of slides and make a kick ass display. If you are into making mibs and attachments, bring them. If you are into reversals, make a bunch. Bring finished pieces, frame worked pieces, pulled tube, anything including tools that you think you will need. Glasses are a must. Please be swift and mercilous with your torch time. The last thing we ask is that you have a good time. Detroit is an amazing city and we hope everyone who comes has the best time. We have lined up some of the best talent in the city for your entertainment, have amazing sponsors who are bringing in local culture and our friends and family are all people you need to meet. We intend on killing it and making a fat stack of cash for the Belle Isle Aquarium. Message me if you have any questions. Thanks everyone! yes, detroit was one hell of an adventure. ironically, right in front of urban pheasants studio i wrecked my new Audi S4 on I75. someone was trailering a car in the opposite lanes and lost a wheel. it came over the median, missed the car in front me and tagged my front end. fortunately i was not driving like i had been the night before and managed to hit a little more slowly. i dont' want to know what that would have been like, because even at 35mph it still did 7K worth of damage. but all will be well, just have to get back to the D to pick her up next week, and one more excuse to party with you guys... which by the way, y'all know how to represent!

If you have any suggestions on what you would like to see, know artists we should bring on board, or have two cents to throw into the pot, we are open to hear it. We are also starting to contact sponsors, so if there is a specific company you think we should ask to join us, let us know. Thanks for all the support. Majority of the artist and people attending are from the area so why not keep the money local. Maybe donate to another detorit charity besides the belle isle aquarium maybe give the proceeds to Gleaners community food bank or to help fund art programs in the local schools.
