Andrew, is this a one shot deal or are you going to be holding this class at other times in the future?
I'm going to AGI and just can't bring myself to try and convince my wife that i need two trips to PA this year. I do have a ceramics kiln that would handle 2350 all day and want to modify the lid at some point but could really use a class like this before i start that build. I've watched all the tube pull video's i can find but know that there is much more to pulling good tube than they have to offer.
Thanks,
Rick

Sweet man! I'll keep an eye out for them as this is definitely what i wanna do at some point.
On another note, do you think I'm way off base thinking i can convert the Kiln i have? It's a 2 section 220 that i need to add a digital controller to. I have a ceramic studio in the basement that since i found glass gets very little use. So I would really like to save some cash and use what i got already.
let me know if I'm on the wrong track with my logic please.
Thanks,
Rick

Check out the kiln in the photo above - they're modified a bit from a typical ceramic kiln design. Crucible kilns have a good bit more firebrick around the exterior, and different lids. I'm not directly experienced with this, but I don't see why a ceramic kiln couldn't be modified. While it may work as is, I don't think it would be ideal.
Surely that question has come up before around here? If not I'd suggest asking AIM or Paragon what they think, or if they have any mod kits. Seems like as you'd have to change the lid, add brick, re-do the elements, AND you still need to buy a controller... I'd probably just get a new kiln.

Most cruicibles are 30amp at 8,000 watts. That's a lot of juice. It doesn't sound impossible tho. The class sounds super bad ass. Best of luck with it. Way to open it up. Those crubicles aren't that pricey in relative production value. Check out Skutt. Abe seems to team up with them often for the tube pull show if that tells you anything.
