what's up fellow glass lovers, L3V3R2ooo here I'm a long time lover of glass but i've never tried it so I finally decided to try my hands at some glass melting myself. I really can't believe that I have just now found these forums. I'm really stoked this is something that I have always wanted to do. I've been reading for awhile and watching you tube video's to see if it was something I thought I could do. It seems that I have a passion for glass and I pickup quickly on everything I do so I might be able to pull this off. I just ordered contemporary lampworking vol 1&2 Figure that is the best place to start.

I have a camper trailer on my property that I'm turning into a studio. I'm just in the planning stages at the moment I plan on starting construction next week. I have questions on venting my work area properly my health and safety are some of my main concerns. Then I will will be focusing on my torch tools, and etc. I think I have a nice space for starting up. Now should I start a new thread in the health and safety section for my ventilation and work station questions or should I just post them here. I got a pretty good idea of how I think it should be done but I'm a total newb and I want some people with experience to tell me if I'm looking at it right. It's a pleasure to be here with all these kick ass artist's and I look forward to being apart of this community.

Welcome! You've come to the right place.
There are a lot of threads about ventilation and shop setup, make sure you read them thoroughly before asking questions.
Good luck!

Vent. is the first and one of the most important factors in the studios you will have. Make it simple and effective. A good fan ( adequate cfm ), and direct outlet. There is tons of info on vent and every thing you want to learn. Do read the Webster for our stuff http://www.talkglass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=521&highlight=glass+dictionary and search a lot.

BTW welcome to the meltdown

Thanks for the welcome guy's. I've been scouring the threads for day's taking in as much info as possible. That way I'm not asking questions that have already been answered (don't want to be that guy). I'll be starting a thread in the setting up shop section with pics so when I get started building if I do run into any complications everybody will know what I'm working with. once again I'm really glad to be here and can't wait to start melting glass.

Welcome! This has been one of the greatest resources for me as I've been learning most this on my own, not sure what your situation is, but either way this site is great.

I spent at least 10 times more thinking about ventilation than anything else before my shop build. Its definitely worth doing right. Like someone said earlier, most the info is already here on vents, and if you ask a question with an answer easy to find, you will be burned by many...i'll leave it at that.

The search function alone is a huge resource, you mix in an active forum and you've got something that can really help you out.
