A couple of thoughts on the nature/camping/coast:

South Beach campground is a nice place to stay in Newport, a pretty chill coast town. The CG itself is pretty developed but it has showers and yurts, plus it's less than a mile walk from the Rogue Brewery (best in Oregon IMO) and the Aquarium:

As for closer to Eugene, this is the best nature that's closest to town, a true gem and fantastic river spot:

If you're in Eug the least you should do is make time to go climb Spencer Butte, a nice mountain hike 10 mins out of town...you can see all over the whole area:

Finally I'll mention that you probably shouldn't bother with the high mountains right now if you're tempted; there's still alot of snow in many spots (like our fantastic waterfalls) and it'll be the height of mosquito season at the high lakes.

4th annual trip to the DFO for the AZ kids and our 3rd road trip. Rental car is gassed up and we're about to hit the road for a straight shot up.

Staying in Grants Pass for two nights then in Eugene for the next 3.
