Does any one have any clue who runs the web site? http://www.glass-suppliers.com ?????

Esp does anyone have any contact info to get hold of who ever runs the site? I have some legal/business matters I need to bring to there attention and they seem pretty dodgy on any sort of contact info or way to get hold of anyone from that site. There whois info is even all BS and has no info as to the owners of the domain are. Or any way to contact them.

The stats page is in Chinese, and there's really no original content whatsoever. I wouldn't really expect to find any sort of person running it. Probably just a spam site (oddly without ads) or personal project gone wrong is my guess.

Many individuals register their domain private, since otherwise you're giving your name, address, and phone number to the whole world. That's fine for companies and not ideal for say, your house.

YA that's pretty much what I got when doing a whois search. I also contacted the domain guard place. They gave a me an anonymous email forwarding address to email the sites owner. Tho I never got a real response.

Since it's obvious they are ripping content from this site I would get misha to file a DMCA claim against them through their hosting provider, that should elicit a response, and if it doesn't the site goes away.

i'll write the host.

Awesome. When I mentioned some DMCA issues with the host they basically got all "well get a lawyer and a subpoena" attitude. Which really isn't necessary.

and some horse shit about not being responsible for any of the content hosted by there customers. WhIch is total bull shit once they are made aware of some thing.

It's a pretty odd site, in that it doesn't have any ads or anything. Most slurpers would have some ads up, at least.... I'm not sure what the purpose of the site is.

The most evil thing I could think of is to fraudulently support some claim of ownership of content when it's cross posted to another site maybe?

maybe it's something written by a CS student and user of this forum for the sake of some assignment or proof-of-concept or something - write a script to rip content from another site.

maybe it's someone testing an already written script, and they forgot about it....

And the whole point of the DMCA take down request is that service providers are shielded from the extreme liabilities of their clients content, allowing them to respond to an issue and take action when it's brought to their attention rather than require them to review all content on their servers actively.

The host can demand proof of the complainants ownership of content in question before they delete the content, but once a dispute is opened they have to contact the owner of the domain, and/or the user responsible for the content and give them a chance to respond - usually that person will delete the content if they know they don't own it. After that it will vary by TOS from hosting co to hosting company. Nothing requires them to give a claimant information about their users without a legal subpoena, which you can file for yourself, but a lawyer makes it a lot easier.

most commercial hosting providers have legal teams (or at least a lawyer on retainer) that can decide if a claim has any merit, so you're more likely to get action from the host if you hire a lawyer, but you don't need a lawyer to initiate legal action in the US - it just really helps.

My thoughts exactly.

I didn't sleep through high school and spent 7 years in collage switching majors a couple times... also, I have no life and basically read wikipedia-linked sources and academic papers for fun. Now why did this thread get revived?

Oh... ksanjay is a new guy... welcome to the meltingpot ksanjay, may I suggest reading threads before you respond to them, especially if the thread is buried more than a few pages deep in the archives?
