Anyone down with doing a piece during AGI? We could bring both solid and hollow components with us. Maybe come up with a very broad color pallet for everyone to at least adhere to. Then sometime during the week or maybe a little during the entire week put the components together. We could donate said piece to the Donners & AGI not only in appreciation but if sold (up to the house) proceeds to the house? 8) I think it would be kick ass given the participants 8)
edit - sorry, guess I type like I speak, should know better around here, hope it makes more sense now.
It looks like you must have been holding your dabber whilst typing the first part of your paragraph.
I mean read it when I type it and see how much you understand.
How bout we or can we, all do components who would like to that will be there, solid and hollow,
Is that special AGI code or something, Does tom give all first time agi kids a secret code to use.

no worries jr, I gots big shoulders 8)
The only reason I thought this would be a great idea is lately I'm seeing the awesome collabs coming out of everyone's shop. I work alone down at the beach. The only time I get with other artists is when I get the time to go to Asheville and hang with all my glass peeps. Being alone truly does suck the big one LOL. I'm jealous as hell of places like Asheville, NY and Eugene. All those people to hang and learn from. There is only one other glass blower in my area and he's a ghost.
I guess I should first ask if there is a ticket holder with a torch space, as I didn't get that, to see if they would put it together or let the masses "use" the space during free time? Just an idea, no worries if it doesn't happen. I hear that the days are full anyways. Just seeing if there was interest. Those that have been all these years know if this is doable or not.

your idea isnt crazy but it would be pretty hard to pull off without alot of forthought.
the compound is setup with torch spots in several buildings that would rely on you taking said piece from one place to another. i did this last year with a jhoward collab and it was interesting to find kiln space and move items around from one building to the other on blowtubes all bridged up.
also the idea of the masses jumping on my delta when i am not using it makes me cringe. its not a personal thing but that torch is my daily driver and i rely on it to pay my bills so unless i know you are quite competent (which many/most) are, then i wouldnt be comfortable with that.
im sharing my spot with crip and alot of people do that with friends so there is alot of chances to make this collab as long as its planned accordingly.
one thing to remember though is that between the demos, drinking, socializing, drinking, demos, drinking and all the great food too. you will not have anywhere near as much free time as you may think to do said project.
it amazes me how little sleep i get that week and how fast the dame thig goes by.
i long for the next one before i even get ten miles away on the drive home...
this year is gonna be great and it is right around the corner....woohoo!!!

hey FoSho,
I would suggest if you were to get people in on this to bring parts you should come up with a theme and a color scheme first.
get the collaboration rolling here with drawings and other ideas.
assign parts to be made by specific people and bringing them together for the final assembly at AGI. With some scheduling you could probably use the big kiln in the demo hall for the finished piece.
not to mention you could probably set up 1 torch there for the assembly and have people jump on and off that, almost like a demo late one night.
I support this idea and would love to see a massive collab but you should get a firmer grasp on what you will be making. I would also like to suggest that you think of non-pipe work as the Doner's don't sell that sort of thing through their store front, or if it is pipe art, that someone sell it on behalf of the collab and then donate the proceeds.
This all being said we are having a show and tell night on the first day so everybody can see one another's body of work. The entire week is essentially 1 collaboration with the motto, "we are all teachers we are all students"
I like the energy and you haven't even been to one yet ;-)
keep on rocking it.

TY very much you two. I see both of your points and thanks again for putting it all in perspective. I think I'll go with the flow on this one and see about doing just what you suggested Moch for next year's.
"we are all teachers we are all students" = most xcellent motto 8)
This sounds familiar... wait, gimme a second...
There it is. (http://www.talkglass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43423)

With about 90 attendees oven space ia at a premium When you get here you will have lots to keep you busy and on a small scale you could do a collab but the first thing you have to do is make a drinking glass no plastic cups.

People collab right and left at AGI... it's between you and whomever you are hanging out with.
Last year this was the plan, make some piece and donate it to Wonka Corp... it wasn't finished by the end of the week, though and I have a couple nice souvenirs in a truly lovely color scheme.
Organizing a collab between 10-20-70 people is difficult, but I don't think that's what you had in mind anyway.
Yes, you're likely to find someone who'll let you use their torch space, as there's so much more to do than stand around blowing glass that many A ticket holders aren't using their spots much of the time.

I'm thinking of bringing my own kiln this year... It's always a battle royal for kiln space...
Hey 'tree, you ever take pics of that "totemic" collab from last year? I never did see the finished piece...

Good idea, I'll bring an AIM 99 if that's kosher with the Wonka crew.
Moch, Wonk, do you guys have connections for extra kilns?
themoch

Depending on the voltage there are extra outlets. It depends on the building your in, and the outlet type. I would call Wonka directly for specific inquiries.
we can always use extra kilns, or kilns with reliable controllers on them
