So someone brings in this piece for repair. The face part is deffinately cast. I would think very hard to do in boro. So i want to know if this is soft glass. I worked for Arribas brithers in 1973 when i was an apprentice at Disney orlando. This is very recent. Looking to see id David Sandidge might see this and recognize it . Any one know this piece and is it soft or boro. If it is cast lead crystal, then torch will pull out black sooty look. I do not want to work it with flame.

is this really worth your time to deal with? it may be better to advise your customer to just buy a new one.

Forty years at the torch and many long time customers started by asking to get something repaired. It is a simple service but makes for great PR. David responded on another forum that the face is press molded and is boro. So the actual repair (after heating up and annealing down)will be less time that it takes for this post.

Hi Lewis.
I've had repairs like that in the past, and I prefer to use UV glue when I'm unsure. If you need some, I have a shit ton of it (almost a gallon), and I'll be happy to send you some.

Have you repaired it yet? The wings might have a frosted glass stain on it. It is used a lot in that type of glass. It will burn off clean in the kiln leaving the wings clear, but if you weld the wing on "cold" it will burn the frost and look like shit. Can't tell in the pic whether or not it is sandblasted, but I doubt it. About the face, I have a brass mold from a decade ago of a lady's face, and used to use it a lot to make detailed faces. Works even on boro, so I would say that piece is def boro. I could make it easily, so Im sure disney could.

Repaired the piece a day or so ago. I knew the wings were sandblasted. After repair, I masked off the area and sandblasted the part that the torch made clear. The feet had been broken off where the UV glue held it to the crystal base. So i re-UVed that .
Total time (minus heating up and annealing down) was less than six minutes for all parts of the repair.
Happy customer. They also bought a sculpture.
