So I'm getting low on clear, I use chinese for everything unless I find a deal that beats the prices of china.

in the past I held out till a good sale came (cough abr cough cough pallet sale cough) o wow excuse me...

Anyways bottom line, does anyone have a deal running...or a supplier they wouldnt mind pming me or something...not looking to exploit anyone's source, I know it might be stepping in toes to even ask.

Please help me out! Thanks in advance y'all

I also recommend UST Glass for Asian tubing.

I do not know about their shipping (I live near a warehouse)
but their prices are a dollar per pound for Asian regular and
it is currently on sale for .85 per pound. (cases only)

Check http://www.eu-glass.com/distributors You can prob drive a hour to one of these and pick up your glass. $20 in gas which you can also use to make sales trips to other cites is way better than paying $40 a case to have it shipped imo

EU doesn't have Chinese do they?

One of the distributors might be able to get you some.
I use their SBA and am happy with it. Its about $3 a lb but being able to go buy it without paying for shipping was awesome. They also had ground joints, $40 a lb multi color line tubes, all sorts of good stuff

I just mentioned it as a alternative. Something to keep in mind too if you ever run out of something and need to buy in a emergency.

Role: I called about the .85 per pound 25mm. None on east coast and shipping from west coast was $90. Kinda makes it not worth it. Bummed.

That is crappy, are they just out of stock or they don't carry it at the PA
warehouse ??

ETA: I gave them a call and they said they will likely have 25mm hvy wall
at the PA warehouse when the next container arrives.

thats awesome, how much to ship to Milwaukee, Wisconsin Dave?

daveabr

it might be a few bucks less to Milwaukee, but probably not much. it has less to do with distance, than with the size of the box.

+1 ... using asian glass, you are making a bad name for Western made pipes. Folks buy american made glass for the quality control. (and because the slave labor) but MOSTLY because if you drop a piece made with corning pyrex it will not break unlike the asian shit that you can buy at 7-Eleven

I've heard recently that Corning Pyrex is made in China. It was being made in Japan for a while.

The only US manufactured (German owned) clear is from Kimble.

really thats odd cus the all asia color and clear drawn on wig wag encalmo i did 2 years ago just dropped out of my basketball shorts from a ladder onto concrete in the garage last night, it bounced 3+ times and did not break chip scratch

i dont really care if its a slave to a dictator or to taxes and a fucked up system, as long as they pull good clear and dont jack on prices ill buy from them.

I live in Steuben County NY where Corning Incorporated is located. I have a friend from high school who works there. You bet your ass its made in the United States.

corning has several different lines of tubing. they had outsourced some of it overseas. an east coast supplier got stuck with a bunch of it, and a lot of people had to return a bunch of seedy, crappy tubes. i think that's where all the corning info came from.

we heard that some was definitely being made in Asia. and some folks had Asian writing on boxes of it they had. but we don't carry it, so i never really saw anything with my own eyes

All of the cases I got a few years back said made in Japan on the box.

I haven't ordered it in years, so I can't comment on the made in china thing.

I used to use it almost exclusively. Then it started to suck. Now I don't.

That's not an ethical point of view. How do you feel about imported pipes?

Nice. In that case, don't be offended when a store doesn't buy a single piece off you because your prices are higher than the local import distributor. And yes, Wisconsin has an import distributor, oddly enough he sells to every shop around here, the same ones that tell us all "we want exclusivity, you can't sell to anyone else around Milwaukee if you want to sell to us" then buy a lousy $300 worth of product.

I know where to get chinese inside out chillums straight from the Port of Los Angeles for 1.50 a piece. They are almost as good quality as mine. I could make a fucking fortune. I dont. Why? 1. I have a soul 2. I have a sense of duty to my country. 3. I'd like to see the children in this country have a future that isn't made in china 4. Im not suffering from cerebral palsy

There are things you can't avoid importing without bankrupting yourself, like TV's, computers, gasoline(oil). Then there are things you can avoid importing, like raw glass, food, bottled water and building materials.

If you can't make money using material that comes from a western country with decent labor rules and using patriotic business practices, then you probably just suck at glassblowing. If this offends, than like you said, I don't really care.

:blowkiss:

PS, ABR has great prices on kimble, it's good stuff, and Kimble Rod is the best rod IMO, and its made in the USA.

I thought some or all Pyrex was made in Japan, not china? Could almost swear I had bought a case then read about it here, checked said case and saw the Made in Japan on the label. Was at least 3 years ago, so memory is partly cloudy.

daveabr
07-27-2012, 11:52 AM
it was definitely being made there for a while, there's not getting around that. so much of the Pyrex kitchenware manufacturing was moved over long ago. they had existing facilities.

kimble also has overseas facilities, but they are used for all the science and medical device production. which is exponentially more than what is produced for the artistic industry.

Wow that's too bad, scientific jobs can pay well, and with what the lab apparatus sells for they could be paying Amerikans a good wage to make it. I had no idea they did that.

At least quality glass is still being made in Western industrialized countries that treat their workers and people (the environment) realistically: Germany and Czech.

I actually have morals and know the difference between standards of living in Europe and China. Check it out.

Stop it with this logic crap. Don’t you know it’s, “Do as I say, not as I do”? <Sarcasm>

Thanks for telling it like it is… rep points coming your way.
