I have a really old skutt kiln that has a kiln sitter controller, which I cant figure out how to get it working. I was wondering if it is possible to replace that kiln sitter with a glass master control box..The kiln sitter is, I think, for ceramic firing with use of a cone?? I work with glass wanna make this thing work for me... it seems it would be fairly easy to just replace the controller and put in a thermocouple but I am not one who knows. Any one know if this is something that would work??

Yes, you can replace the Kiln Sitter with a digital controller. Use the Kiln Sitter as an over-temp device if you will be firing the kiln while away from it for long periods. Here is an article that explains how the Kiln Sitter works as an over-temp device:

Or you could remove the Kiln Sitter. Shape a firebrick to the size of the Kiln Sitter hole using sandpaper, and cement the firebrick plug into the hole. It might be feasible to install the pyrometer where the Kiln Sitter went. I am not sure, because I don't know where the Kiln Sitter is mounted on your kiln.

Thank you for the information. I think I will be able to remove the sitter completely and replace it with the pyrometer. The kiln sitter is over 12 years old, the wires are so fragile the smallest amount of movement and they break apart, I would rather eliminate this old system completely. Thanks again for the words!
