i thought this was an ingenious/potentially catastophic idea
its been discussed before, but i thought it was worth knowing about

People do it.

I raise an eyebrow at the initial execution, but it worked. Generally, thumbs up.

I stripe a rod in hand and then chuck it up in the drill after I get the color on. I end up snipping off a piece of the handle to keep it short.

hamm taught me this but my cane doesn't end up perfectly straight. still, it's super fast way to get a ton of cane, if you're into that sort of thing.

It also helps to have either a fully charged battery or just a drill that plugs into the wall. I am saying that from experience....

I love this guy's videos, very useful for a new glassblower in general.

Folks say not to use corded drills because they don't have the brake on them.

Having said that, I use a corded drill when I do mine. I let go of the trigger and use my finger to slow the chuck. It's like 3 extra seconds vs. the sudden stop.

Like I said in another thread though, if you do this, be careful; the punty can break and you wind up with the hot glass propeller of death.
