View Full Version : studio robbed in NY area !!

NOFO
02-21-2006, 07:51 AM
my new studio space was robbed sometime between Saturday and Today. They got my GTT Mirage, my GTT Phantom, Two minor burners, and a older major burner, they also got all my tools I dropped off there on Saturday to get ready for oxy delivery today, Infinity molds, paddled with "JG" carved into the handle, a wooden cherry chest full fo color rods......a ton of stuff.

Please anyone from NY, it happened in Laural Long Island NY, so if anyone in our small glass family on LI or the NY area hears about some stuff for sale please act like you want it and contact me at garvey66@gmail.com , as a REWARD you can keep everything but the GTT Mirage and GTT Phantom and my graphite tools, I truely thank GOD my new HA is still at my house because lack of a air compressor at the new spot.

Too add insult to injury, the barn I rented a month ago was an illegal rental so the guy who is a friend of the family can't recover any insurance !!!!! And he is a broke old farmer who rented it to me to get some money......I can't fuckin win...be careful people, know that the place you rent is insured, learn from my stupid mistake.

I talked to Wally from GTT, I know them very well from building their web site, they are going through their files, hopefully they will have the serial numbers for the torches and I will post them if and when I get those.
It had to be someone local, this is a barn in the middle of wine and farm land on long island, nobody just was driving by and decided to look in this barn, someone had to see me putting stuff in there within the last few weeks.

Thanks to everyone for the support, I hope through you guy's we hear something, anythiing. And I got lucky Mark, my new HA was still at my house because there was not a air compressor at the barn yet, so I got luckey on that, if you can call it lucky......

Thats super lousy. So , you hadn't taken any one over there that you knew? You think it was some neighbors or someone that saw you taking stuff into the barn? I try to keep my shops in 'undisclosed locations' Dick Cheney style.
Are there even serial numbers on GTTs?

maybe run some "sting" ads in the LI area newspapers, the LI papers, manhattan area, upstate check around you may also want to call up to Urban Glass to see if anyone has brought anything around there. Did you file a police report? Even though its not covered by insurance they cant help you find it if you didnt file I bet there was evidence all over that place they might have been able to use to find where the stuff went or to help locate the thiefs.

I feel for you, our co-op studio space was broken in 3 times, now we have installed alarms (which are friggen expensive)

I didn't have anything stolen but our silk-screen artist had $5000 worth of stuff stolen and damages, they tore apart his studio looking for stuff to steal

They managed to break in 3 times in the same week just check out all the studios (theres 12 artists) to find stuff to steal, they even went through a wall to get into the blacksmiths studio.

I don't think the thieves will head up this way, but Im just right across the lake from Rochester so its not impossible

We have filed a police report , as far as the farmer he is a old friend of the family my great-great grandfather and his great grandfather owned allot of farm land out here back in the day and I know he had nothing to do with it, it had to be someone local who saw me moving stuff in there in the last few weeks, it's not the kind of place people drive by, it is on a main road, well main for here, but this time of year nobody is in wine country, it has to be someone who lives close....it is very "small town" where I am from and if it was done local I hope someone hears something.
I just want to thank all of you for the support and for the NY area lampworkers keeping an eye out , it means allot to me !!!

Guns are just so weak Ya right, Who is anyone to want to protect there selves or there famly over that of a thug.
Only thugs and criminals should have guns.

Guns might be weak in warding off something if you are not there and its always better when you DON'T HAVE TO blow anyone away. Some times even when you are 100% in the right to defend your self you might still be in a lot of hot water still.

Cameras are great to have. For when you are not around and to know who someone is and to have proof. For that they are great providing you hide the real camreas and have fake ones for decoys leading any one that see's it in to the real camras view. As they are tring to stay out of dummy cams field of view. I have a big bumper sticker on a peg board that says "SMILE HAVE A NICE DAY."
and a cam that has a head on view of any one that looks at the sign and gives a nice big smile to the cam thats hiding there. All most everyone thats ever in my shop looks directly at it and smiles.

there was a study ddone on shootings a while back and I believe it was something like 60% of legally owned handguns / shotguns used in shootings were actually used against the owner. I cant remember if that was the exact fact but I knew it was very high. Id rather use a baseball bat or a frying pan! after all one swift kapow across the head with a cast iron frying pan I bet that jackarse would be on the floor out cold and not bleelding all the hell all over and still concious.

I've heard that but I don't beleve it happens as often as the anti gun media makes it out to be.
or else you would hear of it happing quite a lot. theres million and millions of guns in the US they out number pepole by more then 4 to 1.

I'm not in favour of guns, but there are also statistics that say that if you have kids, guns, and a swimming pool, the pool is almost 100X more likely to kill one of the kids than one of the guns is. Have you ever heard of a parent saying "I don't want you playing at Joey's, because they have a pool"?

LOL LOL nobody gets past a lion Awesome I wasn't expecting that. That one will keep me chuckeling all day long. hee hee a lion.

Or a big swiming pool might work too. A realy realy realy big one that you have to swin threw to get to the shop. With sharks that have freaking lazars attached to there heads.

there is also a statistic that says more people die of autoerotic asfixiation a year than deaths by lightning stike. Which means you're more likely to die by strangling yourself while mastrabating than by lightning. That doesn't mean I'll go golfing in a thunderstorm.

Get an alarm and cross your fingers, if somebody wants your shit bad enough they will find a way to get it. That sucks man, I'm really sorry to hear somebody stole your shit.

02-26-2006, 09:52 AM
You need a device that links to your alarm system and when it detects an intruder, a large heavy box with lots of red LEDs on it starts whirring and buzzing in increasingly higher pitches, while the LEDs start flashing frantically, and a loud robotic voice says "SELF DESTRUCT SEQUENCE INITIATED". That should get them to leave.

Hee hee hee, the comment about Americans and guns is kind of funny because Canadians have like twice as many guns per capita than Americans!

I was going to suggest video cameras and an alarm system, but someone already did so I'll just second the idea. A dog is really not a bad idea too, and most small-scale burglars won't make the effort to poison it.

hmmm... I don't know if thats true. but then again we do have a much, much smaller population (around 30 million people-not including illegal residents) and we have alot of wild game so maby :contempla

I have nothing against guns used for sport (ie hunting, comptitive shooting, general target practice)

but to have guns around for unlawful purposes or just for "protection" i totally dissagree with. If violence is such a problem then why have more weapons hanging around. Gaundi had the right idea if you ask me.

PS many of the illegal firearms in canada come from the states

you can get a motion detector alarm, that comes with 2 door/window sensors and is expandable at radio shack for under a bill that calls up to 5 telephone/cell/pager #'s if the motion sensor is tripped.

I would get that, a GOOD deadbold, and secuirty door, and renters or homeowners insurance. It all will cost you under 40-50 a month.

Thats very interesting info kalera can you tell me where you got it from? and if it was true i'd say it would def have to be rifles cause pistols are very hard to come by here. we also dont have that high of a murder by firearm ratio compared to the united states. though i dont know any of the official stats you can maybe watch the movie bowling for columbine and you might as well pick up roger and me well your at it grab some popcorn cause micheal moore is great!! but yea its true most of ant of the hand guns you find on the black market in canada definetly come from the states. we definetly have alot more loops to jump through here when it comes to owning anykind of firearms, we dont have guns at pawn shops, we dont have any liquor, porn and gun stores. so yea i guess what im trying to say that i dont really belive that we have more guns per capita then the states and if we do then i guess we are just alot smarter about it :tongue2:
