Hi everyone. I've been very busy the last 8 months researching marble making machines, chemical glass formulas, the periodic table, large oven glass flow patterns, etc. and I am just back from Reno Ohio and I have 30% of the work I did there making machine made marbles as the other 70% were too hot for me to obtain before my flight home.
Below you'll see pictures of the marbles with one close-up of the colors in the ribbon of one marble. The thing is, I only used 2 color rods in making these marbles. No rods were multicolored either. To my knowledge, no other experiment has been done in the machine making industry before!!!
Of course I can't go into specifics as the owner of Jabo, Inc. said not to and I don't want other companies to duplicate what I did. It's like giving out the receipt of Pepsi...lol.
So..... what do you think of these marbles?

I love them, Rich. Great work!
I'd like to see them with some transparents. Glass just isn't the same without transparency.

In these marbles, one of the two rods was a transparent rod in each marble. It blended with the other rod and was "eaten-up" by it!

The marbles are 3/4" and will go for sale at the Sistersville Marble Show on Wed, Thru and Fri in West Virginia. I am not sure of the cost but I think they will be on the Jabo, Inc. web site after the show as we just made them Sunday and they are getting ready for the show there. I also think Biblefreak (Matthew) will be having them for sale at my marble show in March 16, 2013.

The marble making machine worked for 8 hours. Did you know that it takes 30 seconds to make 1 marble using the machine?

The thing is, I only used 2 color rods in making these marbles. No rods were multicolored either.
I'd imagine there's some residual glass in the furnace left over from a previous melt...
or... you had a rod or 2 that had a reactive nature, made with silver, copper, tin, etc... many of the chemicals used in coloring glass can give multiple color effects under different chemical environments, heat, and time.
To my knowledge, no other experiment has been done in the machine making industry before!!!
um...that's quite a proclamation! Something tells me you left a part of this statement out. The "machine making industry" in general, i.e. people who make machines, is fueled by experimentation. The machine made marble industry would be no where today if not for experimentation...
So..... what do you think of these marbles?
They're nice i guess... never been too into the machine made marbles myself, but I am fascinated by the machines.
something about 30 seconds per marble...
well... 30 seconds from the time a gob is cut, dropped in the rollers, and spit into a bucket... No one uses those machines to make one marble, and in fact you don't have to wait for one to finish before the next one is started. The machines I've seen run usually spit out 30+ marbles a minute, and I suspect they can turn the screws faster when making lower grade marbles.
Keep learning!

I spent 8 months researching before I did the run.
Researching the marble books, none of the following companies that used marble making machines (showing pictures of the marbles) used reactive glass as a general rule:
The Akro Agate Company, Alley Agate and the companies of Lawrence E. Alley, Alox Manufacturing Co., C. E. Bogard and Sons, Cairo Novelty Company, Champion Agate, Christensen Agate, Davis Marble Company, Heaton Agate Co., Jabo, Inc., Jackson Marble Company, Kokomo Opalescent Glass Company, Inc., Libbey Owens Ford, Marble King, Inc., Master Glass Company, Master Marble Company, M. F. Christensen and Son, Mid-Atlantic of West Virginia, Inc., The Peltier Glass Company, Playrite Marble and Novelty Company, Ravenswood Glass and Novelty Company, Vitro Agate Company and Vacor de Mexico.
The machine ran for about a total of 8 hours making marbles. It was a lot of fun too!

Those are really nice Rich. I'm going to NorthEast marble show in Marlboro Mass. next weekend. I have not heard much about it, so I hope there is some turn out. Maybe someone will have these there ?? Would be nice to see them in person!!

Thanks Mike!
The Jabo company just finished doing the Sistersville Marble Show and didn't take any of the Virgo Run because there was too much to do before the show and the marbles were still too hot to bring. I don't know if they are doing the Mass show?????
