I was working tonight and was thinking about how I've been doing this for like 13 years, and I have learned all these different techniques from amazing people and tried to be the best at what I do (while still maintaining a steady income, ie alot of prodo and pushing myself when I can on new/bigger/harder things that I want to accomplish) with the knowledge/tools/etc that I have.

Then I was thinking, I could literally learn something new everyday for the rest of my life (and have thus far), make some pieces that I myself am actually fully happy with from beginning to end, and still never have the perfect piece. As I will learn something new the next day.

We have this thing that we do, melting glass.... making it into whatever we want..... the possibilities are endless.

It's easy to take for granted the lives that we have/lead, or aspire to attain. Whether it's your first day on the torch or you've been doing it for 40+ years, even shit days are good ones. You're blowing glass.....

So, in the end of it all. Will I be sitting there in my rocking chair, unable to spin glass anymore cuz I'm too damn old to be doing it and thinking/dreaming of the perfect piece still?

Some very good points here. Glass is definitely always a work in progress. I think that's what's so cool about it. There's always areas to improve and step up your game.

And your right about crappy days still being good. My worst day on the torch is still better than a good day at my day job.

I really love the fact that if you can dream it, you can make it. There really aren't many limiting factors in this medium. Unfortunately my skills dont match my creativity and imagination yet (5 months ish on the torch) but one day I'm hoping they will. I can't wait to be able to draw something very detailed and artistic out and make it happen in the shop.

I guess the point is, glass is THE SHIT! I can't see myself ever not working to get better at it. VIVA LA GLASS!~!~!~!

I think not, to the rhetorical. Well put. It's all about the ride. I'll have to keep that in mind as the ride gets bumpy.

I am always on the quest for the perfect piece too! I believe that is what will eventually separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak. Every piece I make leaves something to be desired. I am never satisfied completely. I think if I am ever satisfied completely, I'll just quit. Its what keeps me going. Prodo pays the bills, but learning is what drives me. I KNOW I'll be on that porch wondering 'bout the perfect piece fer sure.

The perfect piece always gets knocked off its blowtube while walking it to the kiln resulting in having to save the pieces and reassemble it into the not as perfect piece.
