Hello all,
I found this site while looking for a new hobby that I can do at home. I don't go out much anymore due to some injuries I have. I used to fish, fly radio controled airplanes and heli-copters for work and for fun. I also enjoyed gold prospecting and treasure hunting. Now I avoid groups of people whenever I can. So these hobbies are on the shelf for now.
Hopefully I can pick this up to a level that I can enjoy it without becoming frustrated. I don't heal or learn as fast as when I was younger, I am fiftyish now.

I am a disabled Vet, 20+ years of service. Joined the Marine Corps in the late 70's, retired with 24 years of service. Injured in Desert Storm and again in OEF.
I also worked many years in DPSS Employment Services for the walfare dept in California.

Please share any tutorials you know of and suggestions on how to start learning this art. I just picked up a used torch, a minor bench burner.

Thanks guys/gals... Was beginning to think I said something wrong (already)...
I have the first two Contemporary Lampworking books on the way too me with my torch. Was thinking about ordering the third one from Amazon. The Glassblowing book looks informative but it's in B/W only. Edit: found it on Amazon for $14, ordered it.

I scored yesterday on craigslist. Got a nice 150# Ox tank with reg and stand for $65. It's out of hydro but it's almost full now. Hydro here is $25. This will get me started until I decide to order a OC..

Thanks again everyone...

With respect to your time in Hell, I thank you for your service and what you've given for us to be "free".

But I must ask:

Hydro?

" It's out of hydro but it's almost full now."

I know you are new, but what the fuck does that mean?

An Oxy tank should have Oxygen in it. Are you saying it has water in it?

Doesn't matter, your welding supply place will just exchange it for a full one and you won't have to worry about any "hydro" in the tank.

And in closing, welcome, we're here to help, and poke fun at you occasionally.

Ambiguous at best, and I thank you for your attempts,

but I'm asking the OP what that sentence means.

Pretty simple stuff:

Tank is nearly full of Oxygen but it is out of test date and will need to be Hydrostatically tested prior to refilling...

Raimond,

Aside from the galleries, Contemporary Lampworking is in B/W too. ;)

Homer Hoyt's book only uses clear boro so B/W will not be a problem.

Hello,
Thanks for the support FredLight.

Role is correct in explaining the thought behind my sentence, thank you. :puzzled:

I see that about all the books being B/W. Time to break out my crayons again!

When I exchange a tank, they never check the date. NEVER.

Use up the remaining Oxy, take it in for an exchange.

Tank nearing expiration becomes oxy guy's problem.

Your a lucky guy Fred. This store checks every tank I have taken in that is not from their rotation. I don't mind paying the $25 to a mom and pop operation, they have to pay it to the hydro shop...

Thanks though!
