they are marbles. the first one is a fumed retti, it looks like it was made by travis weber.

the second is soft glass. the third one is an implosion with an opal on the top

is that first pic a Travis Weber? i "think" the 2nd marble is made using complex canes, and the 3rd is some sort of tube implosion with an opal.

#2 is furnace work - James Alloway, I think.

These are 3 examples of top quality work. Check out Brian Bowden's website (http://www.pbase.com/bkbowden/marblesforsale) for more.

That was weird. You should have made a milli marble saying that and posted a pic!!

What technique was the op talking about?

3 completely different marbles, no relation, one is even furnace made, but OP wants to know what 'technique' is used. Then a link to a sales website.

This reeks of a bad attempt at viral marketing. Link to website doesn't even go to similar marbles, just the main page. The people that run this site work very hard. Businesses should buy ad banners.

Give a ****** a fur coat and he thinks he owns the world.

Yeh, that's me.

Ya know, Chris, just a few years ago you were all "gee thanks everyone for being so nice and helping me"
when you were learning mosaics.

What happened to that guy ?

Give a ****** a fur coat and he thinks he owns the world.

I agree with Chris. I dont think I would have put it quite that way but the sentiment I agree with. Seems like lately there is just a huge amount of noise concerning signature techniques like these in the open forum. I would never ask here because I respect the amount of work that goes into developing these. Have some respect for the artist and at least take it offline or maybe consider paying the artist for a class or some one on one time.

You do not even understand why he was being upset.

It was not about asking about the techs...

I didn't mean to be advertising. I've got no affiliation with the site owner. I hadn't even considered the commercial aspect of it, and I thought people were here to learn glass, not buy it - that's just my favorite eye-candy site.

I don't think I deserved the infraction Mr. Juedemann gave me, and I know that whatever he thought was going on isn't. I was just sharing a link to an awesome gallery of photos.

yea... infraction for your post=complete bullshit.

Newb questions can get annoying.. but yours was a nice request and not demanding. Sorry bro.

I didn't make the request - I posted a link to the gallery where the OP lifted the photos from.

Chris' point is well made, this person is asking for people to explain techs that took them trial and error and plenty of time to practice and refine. What makes you think people are just going to tell you how something is done. Especially with such a broad question. "excuse me how do I make nice marbles, I don't want to apply myself I just want to know now." Earn your salt, then have your meal.

Agree with the point. Think it was poorly executed tho, really.

Ok I see that we all need to remember that nun of us would know any of the tricks and techs that we use day to day if we all had the fuck you don't ask attitude!! I understand how it feels when you work hard to develop a tech and people want to copy you but like they say "imatation is the ultimate form of flattery". And think really how this industry has came lepps and bounds in the last five years. That has all come from everyone sharen there technices and knowlage openly!!! Some of the best tips I got on sculpting I got from Banjo at the DFO one year late night all free shaering. Cool as shit!!!! Its that kind of sharing that has help us learn 50 years of knowlage in 5 helping the whole community grow!!! And I'm not saying go copy someones shit just the steps and tip and tricks that one artist use my unlock another box for someone eles taking it to the next level and so on!!!!

I like your attitude, Inky, and I think that anyone that finds it disagreeable isn't going to like the future much. This trend you've noticed is growing and the growth is accelerating. It really started moving with the printing press (some early glassblowers were murdered for writing books sharing techs, in my understanding), was given rocket-boosters with the internet, and ends with Matrix-esque stuff, scary as that is. Even without taking it that far, the computer and internet still have light-years to grow in this marriage between education and technology.

I will let Mr. Judemann speak for himself, but from what he said to me that has
nothing to do with his upset regarding this post.

chris has shared everything he does, there are no secrets unless there is one to pulling 20 miles of stringer threads without going insane. oh wait...

those other techs are pretty obvious once you start doing them. you can't teach this shit with words alone, you can just get enough clues to learn it on your own. tbs, this issue is more about bowden and his place here. he is a divisive character and many people have frustrations with him. i am not trying to make a judgement in public, i don't think that brian would disagree with this assessment.
