Heya.. I've been trying to find a copper source for electroforming, and I haven't seen anything im happy about.
Its either pricey, or way too scrap like.
We have used some sheets of unknown purity that came with our used kit, as well as some scrap from a local machinist (higher quality 99-99.999 pieces, but limited availability).
So.. id like to hear where you get yours, and any input about copper purity.
Thanks

Your neighbors house is full of it. Hahaha. Menards has 2ft sheets. Otherwise any sheet metal shop that does cooper roofing, gutters, and kitchen hoods would prolly sell you their scrap.
I came across this site recently but I've never ordered from them:

The copper you want to use is astm b370 its 99% pure copper amd soesnt have any additives or coverings to prohibit corrosion. Back when i first started i was using copper tubing from the hardware store and found out that it is an alloy of copper and has other additives to keep the corosion down to a minimum. I have dealt with onlinemetals.com in the past. Althought thet can be a little more pricey they have what you need with no minimum order. Another way would be to contact your local roofing supply place and ask if they carry pure copper flashing in stock.

I've seen Pure copper bullion that was claimed to be 999.9% pure But it was pretty pricy at a few dollars per troy oz. Turns out tho its just electrical grade oxygen free plate Used for making bus bars and other electrical items. That they mill in to ingots and engraved with a design.
But Electrical copper is usually more pure then any ornamental or plumbing copper.

This is what I got http://www.sequoia-brass-copper.com/store/Alloy110-032-24-48.html.
It's lasted a long time and I like to cut the sheet to have roughly the same surface area as the parts being plated. I'm almost out now and I don't want to pay so much again. So, I think I'm going to try asking them if they any odd sized cuts or scraps from their shop that I can get at a discount.
Kage, I have no idea how to navigate their site
from the main page there's a tab that says find the right product. Click decorative, then electroplating, then copper.
Here's where it takes you: http://www.technic.com/chemistry?t=2&str=2
thats as far as I've gone on that site, but found this link through another electro forming artist site who referred them. You might have to make an account to get pricing info.. I dunno. Hope that helps
Go to a scrap yard and ask to buy some "bare bright". Best grade copper with no other metals. My in-laws own a few scrap yards so fairly versed in this.

EFS,
Sounds like you have a good source and should look into retailing it online ;-).
