so, ive been messin with these drop stems for bubblers.. i've been poppin open hole in clear can- droppin in 9mm joint so it jus hangs bit over top- do a litle tag of clear to hold it in place then swiping 6mm clear rod around rim of joint- melt into can tryin to get welded all clean...with blow hose attatched... this is the gist of what i am doing...jus clear plain style till i can get it down...I have managed to get few successfully today...trying to get stem length right for can size correct as well....so any helpful tips?
its my birthday! pleaseeeee. tks!

tips for dropping a stem. well, there are other threads on this, but i suppose since its your birthday ill write out my process on making a fixed stem. for a can that im going to flatten the bottom I pop a hole in the top where he stem is to be sealed. I then flare out a piece of 9.5x2mm tube to fit that hole. i put it inside the hole so its danging down. I tack my stem by holding it in place with a reamer and with a small flame tacking the edge but to each there own. i then again use a small flame and smoosh the flared 9mm downstems edge to the wall of the can...after making it all the way around the seal, i double check it to make sure its flattened well. Then I usually attatch a glass on glass fitting by having that ready and cut down, heat it up at the same time you heat up the ring seal you just did, push em together and heat just that seal up and really soak the heat in, a few gentle puffs to make it even and voila!
For a normal push bowl bubbler you make a reduction to bowl-hole below the flare before you seal it, then once it is sealed push it like a bowl.
or
do your ring seal like in the first paragraph then coil pot color around the ring seal, and puff it nice and even. and pop ur hole in there and push ur bowl as well as your carb.
have a good birthday

pop hole in can, push slight maria on downstem tube, insert downstem tube into can so the maria sits flush with the rim of the hole in the can, then melt rim to maria with tiny sharp flame, puff seal out, repeat..., take off tube , pop hole, connect ground joint....
happy birthday :D

I think they make specific gong downstems with a lil extra glass around the top so you don't melt the ground part. also I've thought about using a gong shaping tool like a bowl push to make the fitting in the bub can.

Think thats what you are lookin 4...
those dewar seal gongs have really big flares on them, not generally for smaller pieces too well, just my take on it after ordering some lenz ones.
I know hmk does the "recessed" female look pretty well and im pretty sure he just seals a normal female joint.

I saw what I believe was a 9mm dewar the other day, it looked kinda silly though, the bowl was tiny.

Yeah. You can use regular fittings. Thicker ones. Chinese ones suck. Just drop it in and seal it. A hand torch works great for not messing up the ground part.

cool, i found some really great threadz on this exsact topic...funny how the post has nothing to do with the post title sometimes- or vice versa...i thought makin yer own flare on the top with some tube will work well-
so people are not useing 9mm joints for bubbs...? jus to small i guess-
thanks for help- always!

I use them for mini rigs. But it's just to attach another drop down 18m fitting. There cute. Lol.

I have seen several of them actually. I just saw my first dewar the other day. It just seems like the size is way to small. My personal opinion of course.
