I have a glass tool that's not like anything I've really seen before. It is pretty unique and usefull. I have a working prototype right now, but it is not the slick version that would go to market. The machinist I had working on the nice prototype got to busy with his priority orders and this project had to take a back seat. When I get a machinist to get the slick version done I'm not sure what to do. How do I keep one of the glass tool companies from just copying my tool and sell it themselves? Is it wise to partner with an established tool manufacturer rather than do it myself (as I'm going to have to have someone make the major pieces, even if I assemble myself). Or maybe even see if they would just buy my design.
Even though I've been blowing glass for a long time, I still don't have a clue how big the market is for higher priced tools ($150-$250 range probably). I mean, how many glassblowers are out there, not counting people doing small work like beads, etc.
Anyways, I won't ramble, but just curious to see if others have gone through a similar situation and have advice.
thanks
