View Full Version : how does reputation feature work here?

whats the deal with the reputation feature on this forum? how do you give 'points' to other users for good posts etc. I see the little 'rank' bars under peoples names but virtually everyone is on the lowest level, disabled for mods. theres a little 'add to reputation button on the top right corner of each post, but it is only there for your own posts, on everyone elses it is a 'alert bad post'button. i realize it donsent really play a big role in this community but it just seems wierd to have it then.

i dont know how many of you guys are members of overgrow.com forums, but im guessing at least a fair ammount of you are with all the pipe makers that hang around here :D Something like thier karma system would be a cool thing to have here i think. even though it can lead to people being 'karma whores' lol it pushes people to make tuorials and solid replies.

i dunno just a thought

we use it, and if you notice the people runnning around with their names in red, you'll see how. Rep points are given for informative, and helpful posts, though we don't catch them all.

alright i always give out point here and there. but get the ball rolling and ill keep giving them out. when i see something exceptional i give out points. i also give points if i start an informitive thread and you are part of the informative convo.

half the time im busy trying to check posts then give out points but ill try to spread it around some more.

that is if people really want it. we got a bunch of stuff lined up for it or did when we put it in place. who knows maybe we will evol some kinda karma system.

the staff gives out the points, and once we get enough ninjas, they will too. ;)

so stop being stingy with the points, and you'll have your ninjas right here baby! or.. there..

i never noticed the "bad post" box.. nor the "add to _blank's_ reputation" funny =)

I don't know how it works. How come I've only got points once? I'm sure I can be a wee bit more helpful than that at times!

PyroChixRock

the point system is pretty weak. Not that I am complaining. just stating an opinion. I would be a triple black belt 22 nd degree ninja if it was working properly.

I definatley don't think Misha has to be worring about any of this shit right now.

Oh and Seth there's a little kid over here that knows your a ninja lol....

PyroChixRock

how about some help with it then? anyone want to volunteer to give out rep points?

Racer X

Can I do it? Oh wait... I am on a distinguished road... so I can't be bothered by that.

hey misha, ill admit i dont know alot about running boards but would it be hard to set it up so everyone could give out 'points'? Thats how most other boards ive belonged to have it. That way you arent burdened with having to be the one giving out points. The people on here all seem to be responsible lol.

anyways having 99.9% of everyone 'on the distinguished road' is just lame and pretty much defeats the point of the feature all together.

PyroChixRock
02-28-2006, 01:39 PM
that would defeat the entire purpose of the rep system because people would be giving out points for no reason, to their friends, etc.

im just layin out ideas. again if any of you were a part of overgrow.com it worked wonderfuly there.

it was set up so u could only give a few points per day max and couldnt give to the same person in a row without giving it to other people to. you could also make the admins 'votes count for alot more then normal peoples or something.

the way it is now just seems sort of goofy to me since there are only a hand full of people who are even on the second 'rank'. i realize its not really a big deal but Im bored and need something to rant about

PyroChixRock

the board hasn't been open that long, and the rep feature has been in place even less time. so it may seem goofy because there are only a few ninjas, but keep in mind it's very young.

PyroChixRock

frost, if you'd like to volunteer to give out points, let me know.

you'll have to earn ninja status, but if you'd like to help out and give rep points, I'll be glad for the help. I'll have to set up a special user group for this and add volunteers to it, and explain to you what we feel are "helpful posts" and should be getting points. ;)

I'll have something together in the next couple days. Thanks for the help! :D

Ninja Chop!

So hey, if you need help with rep points Misha, you got my number.

Anyways, I agree with a moderated reputation system as it does a lot to prevent karma whores, and it's not a popularity contest, it's a rewards system for helpful members (or something?)

Besides, too many Ninjas ruins the attack.

Imagine like 4000 ninjas trying to scale a wall in the middle of the night...someone's bound to fart or sneeze or something....

that would be, as ninjas say, bad.

p.s. I don't see my name in red.... does anyone else?

your name is red, dougy. you must be using firefox?

Greymatter Glass

PyroChixRock

Brian Newman

Konqueror renders it in red, but not firefox.

Satori
02-28-2006, 05:30 PM
I don't think Netscape renders it in red either...damn.

I'm not sure though...I've been trying to gradually switch myself over to firefox because gmail chat doesn't work in Netscape either.
