hey everyone,
I'm a huge fan of glass art in all it's manifestations. Lampworking is where I'm at now, but I love it all! Just wanted to share one of my favourite artists with you guys. Her name is Miriam Di Fiore, and she makes the most incredible fused glass landscapes. Words do NOT do justice.
I had the opportunity to spend a summer working for Miriam, so I've seen her do it (and tried my hand at a few!) and it is ALL glass. She uses Bullseye glass, in sheets and frit she grades herself. The trees are made by hand-pulling stringers into the desired shape and hand-assembling each individual branch. It's also done in layers, which render the whole scene eerily three-dimensional. This effect you only really get to see in person!
I wanted to share this with you because if there's one thing it seems most people that work with glass have is in common - an unusually strong attraction to the stuff in all it's forms! I'd love to see some of your favourite art & artists as well.
