Worried that my crusty neighbors arent going to be down with me lamp working in the garage.

For those of you that have used a gable fan setup, does your sodium flare cause a significant, attention grabbing orange glow through the gable fan? Have a shuttter mounted gable fan, and am not sure i want to cut a hole for it just yet..

not sure if the spinning fan itself, shutter mount, and interior lights will do much to block/dilute the flare. input?

It will show at night for sure. You can build a large box around it on the outside of the house and just leave the bottom section open. Will protect from water damage and block the light. They aslo sell the ones with the metal housing for roof mounting, one of those might work. Not sure about wall mounting it though.

Only if you dont have any other light source?
I think having the fan/light on at all hours of the night would grab more attention :P

Yeh should be alright as long as yeh don't blast the tunes or yer banging away on something in the wee hours of the morn.
Think most people get pissed about too much noise, considering torching is an inherently quite activity, as long as yeh don't go chucking piece across the room :P

Just show them some of the beads and pendants you make to get rid of them. Worse comes to worse, you give them a quick lesson

I have the same kind of fan and the same kind of problem. when its spinning its basically an open window you can see right through it. But with an inside flourecent light it would dilute the sodium flare enough so that it isnt like a flash in the dark, but light in an otherwise lit room.

I worry about the noise sometimes, not from breaking glass or music, but from my fan. Maybe its how my fan is mounted in front of a window, or maybe it just vibrates it's own screws loose, but i feel like some days its ROARING and others it just hums. i was thinking about bracing it to the wall better or something, but i was wondering if anyone here has dealt with that an has any ideas, thanks!

i have that problem too, i moved myself from in front of the fan to just outside of the viewing angles...people always say they see a blue light on in my shop, i always just say "huh, i wonder what that could be." and then i go about my business

Wow, I can't believe you guys that are saying you have this problem haven't built a box. I have a problem with my shop being to bright and too loud. I built the box over three attic fans and it cut the noise down to barely noticable at the street and almost zero light. I also have bushes directly under the box which also reduce light and sound.

It is also not polite to point your exhaust fan directly at a neighbor's backyard or anywhere else they might frequent. I have seen a few stir ups occur from an angry neighbor not liking fumes and dust getting blasted into their area while they are outside.
