ya the color rod coe is wrong type,,, but i dont care it was basically free, with all of that other shit!
suckers, and my ventilation is perfect i have a 3 ' x3' window 4 feet above my torch that swings on horizontal hinges, and its all sheet metaled out, so every thing is going to shoot out of that, in theory, my buddy on the other hand is going to have to frame a window up where his large bench is and it will proll'y be a very large window, prolly total investment is 200+ on his window...
rember all of the walls 600 cf+ have been sheet metaled out with 1/8" thick sheet metal, and parts of the interior roof where it was needed, yes it was a bitch putting up, burned out a jig saw working with this metal! lol but it wasnt mine,,, thanks for manards 35 $ for a new one!
Shop Fans
so if im basically in a welding shop/car shop do i really need to put up duct work!
ive seen small automotive garages that even do welding with out duct work, they use both of their garage doors on either side to circulate air.. and then i wont have to put even more holes in the garage i already have enough. ive got large windows suckers
cant i just wear a respirator when fuming?
This garage is a 3 door garage, it was built to hose a 32 ft scarab power boat so its basically a up and running wet shop already,,,
thats why i got space caz dad and mom split dad got the boat ,truck, and toys, dogs ect.... you know... mom got the house, and i came back from college, and the garage is mine now... and the wood fire sauna in the back is mine now too because mom hates it lol, dad is an architect, so every this is done right,,,
next step: more power, in the spring im going to run 2, 6 gauge wires both in separate conduit from the main box at the house on 45 amp breakers to the garage with 50 ft of 1 1/2 inch conduit, another buddy's dad owns a PCV pipe co... getting it good price...
then ill be on my way to a herbie! a glass lathe, and 2+ kiln set up all with in 6 months! ha ha
let me know about any more chinks in my armor! in turn i will do my best to logically rebuttal!
And Pipe dreams do come true! eat shit haters! peace to the all the rest!

Sounds like you need an exhaust fan of some kind. You are going to have more fumes from the color that you can breath in than welding steel. But it sounds like you could put a fan in the window that is about 4 feet from your torch. That would be a great idea.

I would keep my job as a bartender also. Just some freindly advice. Being an artist does not always pay.

your beginning investment has to be $1500, not that hard really, get another job, cut down smoking everything, and have a helpful friend that shares your vision.
then you'll relies that everything in this industry holds its value, except kilns, there heavy to move, limited market with limited delivery service, wiring, ect...
but everything you put into it you'll get out, so do the research and upgrade whever you can!

It sounds like moms garage is the best situation for most of people. That is a big change from a few years ago. But with the housing crisis who could rent a place if there was even anyplace available in the first place.

Sounds kind of cheap to me.... my first investment was like $5000 plus whatever I could aford on my credit cards. But that was when glass pipes first came out also.

ya i have to keep both jobs, because, i don't get cheap rent otherwise... so sadly i have to consider my self a rookie and a hobbyist, lowest of sorts on the glass blowing totem pole but i will be on top just take time and i have that.

Well at least you parents don't charge you rent like mine do. But I do have a studio I can live in with an attick attached that i can use as my drawing and painting studio and a mud room that I use as my glassblowing studio. I got to renovate it for me to use for a wile.

So, a fan in the window was a new idea to you? Ventilation is very important.

I am looking into finding a garage with an appartment above it on the same property as a midle class home. My parents want a smaller midle class home to retire in a couple years. We are looking for something for the both of us.
THat is my next studio.

ya, i agree with you its going to be a 3000-4000 dollar set up when its full complete in a week, and once you start realizing what you need, what you can buy and what you can make, all that fun stuff,
anyway now i need some protection for all of this equipment,
12 gauge shotgun remington 870 express super mag,
and 20 rounds of non lethal rubber bullets, used on bear attacks, and 20 rounds of non lethal bean-bag rounds aka( hammer rounds) riot control.. ha ha
think that should do it

I always just used a lock and I have a dog...... and I don't invite trouble in. No one knows what a glassblowing tool is for in the first place normally.

Or a dope ass lock. But shotguns work too

ya nice, screw the basement, that's a stupid idea pressured propane,+ pressured oxygen,= IED aka bomb under where you live, with all of that hot steel from your tools, torch, tanks, glass now you have a Frag IED flying every where, plus a 1150F kiln running, and no windows because its under the ground! very delicate situation! but understandable if no other choice! just chasen that hot glass!, if i was really fucked i would set one up in the basement and just start hitting it hard tho too...

Ok, I guess I have been shamed for calling shenanigans. Perhaps this thread should die as it no longer is about my setup and I find some cases of douchebaggery egregious.

Yeah I felt being a douchebag since others were. I like respect around here. I've seen too many heads some that I respect a lot get kicked from the mp.
