damn that really sucks. much like cops and doctors, you should be able to trust your mail carrier 100%. usps should take that shit more seriously.
Mike,
That's exactly how I feel. I feel completely betrayed. The one thing that used to be a huge backbone of America. The American government tells me how I should relinquish my personal power and let them take care of me completely? I can't even get a box to my house, how are you gonna protect me?
Somebody post some pictures of their marbles quick so I don't cry

TwoTimes, awsome implosion! AP?
brehmglass, I love the backing art.
Glasstle, nice vortex. Ubtanium backing? cool!
richsantaclause, cool little earthy marbs!
Glassdocnc, Thank you so much for all the hard work you put into this!

I got my Mibs yesterday and I cannot say enough how pleased I am with them and how much I am looking forward to participating in this next year! First off,BIG THANKS go out to GlassnDoc for the immense amount of time, patience, and organization this took to pull off. Second, I would like to thank Berning, Toothpayne, Chad L., AkmeWon, Justice glass, Slow, GambitGlass, and Belliot for the great treasures.

I'm pretty sure I know what happened because it has happened before. The mailman feels a box that seems like it has something expensive in it, he jacks it, and marks the package as return to sender, but the package never actually gets scanned.
I know it sounds unbelievable, I had to listen to this non sense in person. So I ask, "how is my package showing as departing this destination?" It's not the actual package they tell me, it's the bulk code that it was assigned to. So the actual package isn't in it, it's just a phantom. With my torch I was following it all over the country and then like 45 days later I think it showed up back at the senders house beat to shit.
The story goes, the mail man delivered it to the wrong address but the person there signed for it, but didn't accept it.... yeah sounds legit right?
So supposedly this mail man takes my package back to the post office and just dumps it in the return bin and forgets to scan that he had done so. Well, coincidentally the sorter forgot or missed scanning it as well.
I was doing this all the day this package supposedly got delievered because I was watching the tracking very carefully. When that thing said signed and delivered I ran straight to the post.
I was on the phone with somebody from the post for the next 45 days daily and they gave me such a run around. They also told me since it was insure that I had one of three choices. I could have the package investigated and tracked, I could claim the insurance, but they won't even start investigating a claim for 60 days, and if they deem that you were at fault they will not pay you, or you can have you post man investigated.
Now I was told by several different people at several different office that this is standard operating procedure. You have the choice of one and one only. You can not combine. Either you try to find it, or you might get your money, but definitely not both.
I wish I knew how many other things that I wasn't expecting got stolen.
Man, I hate that for you. I was a letter carrier for many years and finally, after having a splendidly stupid boss one time, I decided that I really did want to go back to college and finish so I left. I cannot begin to tell you how much of a miracle it is that your mail gets to anywhere on a daily basis. I also hate to tell you that while I have never seen someone steal an item, I have seen levels of carelessness that would make you sick to your stomach. As far as the claim... That is indeed how it works. However on that note you have to understand that because people abused it when it was less restrictive, it has become ridiculously restrictive.
Keep looking, the Mibs may still be in the mail!

I guess I understand tightening restriction because of abuse, but the fact that they can basically tell you to go ef off even when there is insurance should really raise people's concerns. I had no idea the post office was this corrupt until I started having to ship all the time.
I also think the fact that they told me I could choose one of three choices and if I picked one I was completely screwed out of the others and they say it like its no big deal, really pisses me off.
I don't get how those can be options
1- insurance claim, will start investigation 60 after schedule arrival of package. If they are found negligent(which they won't be, because they will lie) they will give you your money.
2- They investigate and try to locate your package and return it to you, but if you do this and they can't find it, you cannot file an insurance claim.
3- You have the post man investigated, if it is found that he has your package it will be returned, and they give you some guarantee of that post man not running your route again. However, if you choose this route you cannot have your package located, or claim insurance.
How absurd is that? Is it just me? Am I just too emotional over this lol!?

I personally would go with number three... A carrier does not want a postal inspector after him. Its not fun...If you are doing something wrong they will catch you.
As to the others, the majority of folks who work at the PO are good people who do their best to get your mail to you on time. It is not an easy job. It sounds like you have a bad apple of a carrier, deal with that and it may solve problems in the future. The inspectors look into fraud quickly and intensely.
I enjoyed the job, loved walking my routes. Only problem was I have an issue with taking directions from a slack jawed mouth breather, and boy was that man a mouth breather who would stab is own mother if he got something out of it.

I am totally relived about the exchange - I took a chance that you artists would embrace something totally different using the science of metallic reactions in a silicate base. Of course the marbles are not HUGE but the Earth tones were obtained by using reactive glass with non-reactive glass rods over a white base, then "arted up." Metals can be polished and made shiny but when mixed with glass they revert to the organic colors you saw (if you received any of mine). Organic blending occurs and several colors come from just using two rods depending on which metals were used when the original colored glass was made. It isn't anything like the reactions one gets with Boro but it happens with white opaque base soft glass. I spent about 8 months studying chemical reactions under very high heat and keeping notes. The marbles were made using soft glass.
Thank you for your kind comments.

Thanks for the tips Joe. You're absolutely right. I should have him followed by the inspector. I was so clouded by my feelings I didn't even realize how pertinent of an option that was. Obviously my post master general is also crooked, but he's not delivering my mail, so if this guy got transferred to a different route or fired I think that would solve mine and my neighbors problems.
Somebody suggested last night that I put up posters in the neighborhood asking if anybody else has had problems with the mail and then post and email address for the people to respond to. Then I could go in with a bunch of ammo next time.
Joe, I also know that most of people in general are ok people. I try to never lump a group of people together and call them all bad. Just in this instance, it feels like the whole post is against me. I know it's not true, just my feelings running wild. Hell I know several people that have told me they are friends with their courier.

I am actually coming down with Chad in a little while lol.
Please don't give me one of yours, those are yours. I'm working on getting mine back. I did end up getting my torch back after a long fight last time, so we'll see. The tracking just updated and says that it departed Tampa for somwhere this morning, so I don't know what's going on. The mailman said he already delivered it(on the 8th), so we'll see what shows up in the package.

I have GREAT news! and a story to go with it of course.
I got my marbles and... the whole thing was caught on tape and by a good glass blowing friend of mine that made a trip down from Crystal River. So my mail got delivered earlier today, right around 1pm, well around 230 he came back and tried sneaking my package at my front door because he must have seen my car leave, but I wasn't in it.
So anyway, the dogs bark and alert me to his presence so I walk out my shop door and look right at him, my friend saw the whole thing, he turned his head quick, turned his back to me and walked down the driveway and didn't say a word. However, he just got done stating yesterday that he delivered it on the 8th.
But the awesome thing is that I got the marbles and they are freakin AWESOME!!!
I want to thank brehmglass, Hangtime, John A. The Glasstle Group, Gambitglass, and wakinda so much. The marble are beautiful
And Marina, my goodness. You are a saint. The box was wrapped perfect and the labels were more than I could have hoped for. Thank you so much for doing this for all of us.

I'm glad you got your package but I also urge you to look into a more secure way to get your mail in the future.
I learned last year that I needed a better way to track who exchanged with which other artist. The red and green tags (red recipient, green creator) really helped this year. The biggest hurdle was matching sizes/complexity and making sure no one got two from the same person.

You can request packages sent to you be held (general delivery) at the post office, that way you get your regular mail, bills, junk, all that shit, but any packages will be held, not delivered.
I suspect he stole the box, then when questions started getting asked he decided he better return it, then maybe had third thoughts and figured THAT would seem suspicious and came back....
I would contact the state attorney general as well as the state postmaster, and file a formal complaint. The guy is obviously a tool. Glad you got everything tho!

Grey, I had no idea that was an option. That's where it's at right there. I'm gonna go set that up Monday for sure. Thank you.
Well I already filed a local police report and I told them what happened today and they said they are still going to follow through with investigating it.
I was in contact with a friend whose uncle is a mail man and is giving me some inside emails so I don't have to use the general email. He thinks by using this email it won't get screened and the person who needs to see it will. I think this time the guy may have screwed himself.

General delivery is usually case by case... like I don't think you can just sign up for it, but maybe you can. When I lived in Hawaii a lot of people had general delivery because they lived on roads or areas the mail couldn't get to, lacked a legal address. It's also how many homeless people are able to receive mail without relying on a shelter address or something.
When you have someone mail you something they put the address as:
YOUR NAME
GENERAL DELIVERY
CITY, STATE, ZIPCODE-9999
The Zipcode is the zipcode of the post office you want to pick it up at, and append a -9999 to the zipcode which is secret USPS code for general delivery.
Mine would be:
DOUG HARROUN
GENERAL DELIVERY
ALBUQUERQUE, NM 87107-9999
Many online ordering systems wont let you enter a general delivery address, but usually you can contact them via email an get it sorted out.
Also, the post office wont notify you that you have a package for pick up so you have to track it if you can, and/or just check the post office frequently, they'll usually only hold it for a few days to a week.
You'll need at least one valid government ID with your name on it to pick something up, so you can't use a fake name or anything, unless you have a very good fake ID I guess.

keep complaining about this richardhead....sooner or later he'll get fired. mail carriers should be held to a higher standard then they are atm. they're in a position where we need to be able to trust them. after all, checks are in the mail, meds get mailed etc.

second option down. These guys have no sense of humor and will, if a crime is committed, take care of this person. I saw a carrier walked out of a mail facility in handcuffs one time over something trivial compared to this.
thats all you need right there... Local police will have to refer to them as it would be a federal crime...
or even better...

I filled that one out when my torch went "missing" This guy is covering himself. In my instance he said he delivered it to me first, then when I saw the signature was a women he changed his story to he delivered it to her but she didn't accept that package. The reason she signed is because she had to sign for several packages and got confused. So the mailman took it back and stuck it in the return bin, but conveniently forgot to scan it out. So then is was just supposedly floating from post sort facility to sort facility. The postal inspectors got my request, two days after I sent it in they gave me this whole story that the manager at the local branch just gave me.
When the postal inspector finally called, they gave me the same three options. I even said, "so you're telling me, I'm blaming you courier of stealing my mail, and the only thing I can do is one of the three option you gave me?" and of course the response was yes. I think the whole post office runs on those three rules lol
I did fill it out and send it in again, but now that I have the box I'm sure they'll tell me everything is ok then.

It only was after studying the metals, metalloids and non metals off of the periodic table + very high heat torching and researching chemical reactions with silicates for 8 months and doing lots and lots of trial and error marbles that I got the results of what you have in hand.
Boro has similar reactions in it's silvered glass line. But these reactions using Boro won't give the organic colors like opaque soft glass does. As far as I know, it's a new paradigm in marble making.

sounds lovely. We have company coming later so we need to get the guest room in order. Also need to figure out our menu for the evening.

I recommend some nicely marbled steaks, maybe some mashed potatoes and asparagus. A nice merlot or cabernet sauvignon.

I love it when kids act like douches to get attention. Doesn't hurt any of us, but proves without a doubt who you are. So please keep acting like you are. I think it's funny.
Also the reason we kept posting in this thread is because there are four of us involved. Kind of hard to use PM's with four people at the same time. I'm sure pictures will be posted up as well, so just hold on.

Just consider the source of these two and their past history of their actions and expect childlike posts until they grow up and act like adults. Many times I saw behavior like this from my 8th grade students so it really doesn't bother me as in the end they learned from their mistakes and moved on.
Also I think the science is too advanced for both of them to understand what the implications are of what I did and how it might change the way marble makers approach making marbles using soft glass so they both have to act like this to get attention.
Perhaps a PM in the first place to one (or all) of us would have been a more mature way of getting their point across rather than starting off with "I don't want to be a dick." The tone was set with that post.
Then someone else (who seems to need the attention) chimes in with their post that clearly shows them to be an instigator. How mature was that?
Oh well, it is what it is - marble on everyone!

Awww, looks like someone's still sore about getting their balls busted in that ridiculous "glass is a liquid" thread. Buck up cowboy, it'll be all right.
Thanks for revolutionizing the marble world Rich. You truly are an inspiration to us all.
Just horsing around and having a little fun. No reason to be so hostile you guys. Lighten up.

I have forgotten what you are even referring to Mecha - seems you like to keep lists that others don't care about... but I bet you will remind us about this moot thing you carry around - playing around or not... so go ahead - glass is whatever you want it to be!

Sure Rich.
If pretending like you don't remember makes you feel better, well, have at it boss.
It's too bad you didn't teach 8th grade English.
Lol j/k!

We went from "glass is a liquid" to "metal in glass is a new paradigm"
But I digress...
This is the exchange thread. I think it's great you're getting your own thing on but could you make a separate thread if it's going to continue? There are many of us who are subscribed to or otherwise watch this thread with the hope that it will stay on topic, i.e The 2013 marble exchange and the pictures of the marbles from that exchange.

Sure Doug - no problem!
By the way Mecha, I do not pretend anything (ah, the spirit of the young) - it's all good!
Now go make marbles (maybe even we could do a private trade if you'd like - sound like something you'd like to do?). Oops, consider this a PM (my bad!)
Now let's wait to see pix of the exchange like Doug wants.

Because of my severe head trauma I have TBI and my memory is severely diminished, thus I have a very intricate serial system that is special to me, and for the time being I am the only one that knows it. It helps me keep track of when and who got my marbles. Someday it may mean something special to you, who knows.

So did everyone get their packages?
I haven't heard any complaints, but I also haven't heard from most of the recipients.

Rouge, man I like that marble you showed me. Your skills have improved in such a short amount of time. Keep it up and you'll be pumpin out 200.00 plus marbles.
Sorry about your tbi. I was just curious about the different sigs on your mibs. Im hoping that the star signifies a killer mib. Tell me about your intricate serial system some day will ya. Later and looking forward to that marble with a star. Thanks

OK! ALL DONE! Wooohoooo!
Mike yours is not signed yet, but it will be inscribed the same as Rich's.
Do you guys mind if I hold on to these until after the weekend. I have some high profile people that would like to show off some of my marbles and I don't have anything made but yours.
If you agree I'll post pics of your rollers so you don't have to wait for that. If you can't wait I completely understand, just means I'll have to burn the candle on both ends for a couple of nights. ;-)

that's ok with me, i've got to re-do your marble and still have to make Rich's. probably this weekend. i'm warning you Rogue, my flower implosion skills have seriously diminished over the winter! i can't keep from trapping bubbles when i encase the stem. makes em look like shit when viewing them from directly above as the bubble in the stem gets magnified.
