Many times discussion of copyright law has appeared on these forums.
Here is a site that should give clear and information about copyright law.

That site has some good sections on explaining how copyright applies to our type of work.
Many people do not understand the distinction betwen patent, trademark and copyright. These protect very different types of ideas, in different ways.
For instance, copyright does not protect an 'idea' or a method. Copyright cannot protect a name, short phrase or slogan.
Copyright DOES protect a particular expression of an idea.
It's informative to read about how copyright applies to text and writings (basically : you cannot copy verbatim, except for excerpts, but you can rephrase and rewrite copyrighted text all you want).
As far as how copyright can apply to glass work, "Copyright Registration for Works of the Visual Arts" at http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ40.html is a good start.
