Greetings,

I've been doing a lot of color stringer work. Encasing one color with another then pulling it down to 2 - 3mm. Often if white or black encased some color they will look very much identical. My bench is getting out of control trying to keep all the piles organized.

Any suggestions? What do you guys do / use.

As always comments much appreciated.

I go to the "Salvation Army" thrift store and buy the extra tall shot glasses. I bought a dozen for $3.00
They each hold a pretty good grip size of stringers in each. Store them accordingly (color, colors ) whatever works for you.
Try to find the ones with the thick bottoms so they don't become top heavy and tip over.
Works well for me so far.

mason jars are your friend. a case of them is like $12, and you can keep stringers and rod on the bench...the colors you'll use for the job at hand.

i have a couple jars for plain stringers and a couple for multi-color canes.

For stringers I take a page from the beadie's book and use the water bottle friendly ice cube trays.

For random rods, I use the crappy glass vases from the dollar store :)

good idea, i use old jars around the house for stringers and rods etc., but i dont pull stringers until i'm gonna use them so they don't usually accumulate.

Empty pickle jars, jelly jars, etc. or cut the tops off of 32-40oz beer bottles

I went to Home Depot and got a few lengths of 1" PVC pipe and a few dozen of the caps that fit on the end of the pipe. Then I cut the pipe into 12" lengths with a utility knife and stuck a cap on one end of each foot-long section. The cap on one end keeps the stringer from falling through, the tops of the tubes are open so you can see what's inside, and you can stack the tubes horizontally on a shelf or stand them upright in a box on your bench. You can also write on them with a Sharpie if you want to label them.

I get mad and clean my bench once a week and throw the dam things in a box. When it gets full I get another box. When I get poor and need glass I dive in the boxes. Same with shorts.
I used every scrap of clear and black glass in my studio last month just barely made it till pay day

I pull a lot of cane and I use 6" tall pint glasses that I make as practice in the hotshop.

guess we are talking stringer scraps ?..
I pull stringers as long as I possibly can, sometimes four+ ft or so, cant really do much to organize them, but I remember someone on here saying they put little nails in their bench top to separate piles.
I had an idea..I use this pegboard metal pc as a tool rest looks like this kinda I-I-I-I-I-I-I it would work well to divide stringers if you flipped it upside down. there's also a pegboard mounting pc with loops that I make tool holders out of.

This is a new color rack I put together with scraps from the warehouse. I made a smaller one with dividers on top that are open "troughs" to hold shorts and stringers. Sturdy and holds everything nice with labels taped on the edge of each box.
