It's an all too common mistake, people taking orders for things they've never made before.

You'll need some practice, so expect to make a dozen or so before you see sell-able pieces.

Good luck.

I did not take the order. My friend is just wanting to do a prodo line of some slides and asked if i knew how to. I told him no but that I did want to learn so i would try and learn so I could help him out. I ordered tools and everything just figured id practice for a couple weeks before making anything to give him. They are just going to be clear slides for his prodo tubes. I just told him if i could learn soon i would make the slides for the tubes that way he can focus on the tubes.

He's making tubes but can't make a bowl.....what is this industry coming to.....
Stick joint in tool, keep warm in kiln, blow bubble from blank, pop hole, weld to joint, pop bowl hole heat push bowl. Tap outta tool. Voila!
Now send me money.

Lol rollers are just because i wanted them. He can make slides just find i am just trying to help him out and take some of the workload off of him since he has helped me alot since i started. Help him with some free labor seeing as he just had a kid and has to focus more time to that and a little less to working on the torch. I am sorry if you guys are taking offense by me asking. I just wanted to help out a friend. I am aware i shouldnt try to take on a workload i know nothing about at the moment. I am wanting to learn though and more than willing. Was just hoping someone knew of a photo tutorial or a video. I do appreciate the help i have been given though and will try that out. Thank you.

Back pedal, quick!

Lol. Good Luck. Btw, some joints get stuck in the tool.

Let us know how you get them out.

First things first, joints aren't cheap, so if you're really new to glass, you might want to hold off a while before playing with them, they can be absolutely unmerciful. warm your joints up in the kiln, some guys will even batch anneal them, they have a tendency to crack if they aren't pampered. I like to have my colored section ready on a 7mm handle hanging out in the punty door. Warm the graphite holding tool in the flame, not red hot, but a good bath. Grab out the joint, put it in the holding too, and give the tool a nice solid smack on the mouthpiece end, this makes the joint hold on really nice. tear off the extra tube on the joint, open it back up and make a clean hole. Weld on your section, tear off 7mm handle. pop hole, push bowl. attach handle/ attachments, millies whatever. Now to release the joint from the tool, grab another tool that has some weight, a pliers for example, and smack on the GONG tool holder below the graphite on the metal tube. Might take a couple hits, but the GONG should release fairly easily if you didn't jam it on too hard.

****Blast shield holders are the cats ass and worth the extra $$$ *****

i've used thousands of lenz joints, never preheat anything. its extremely rare to have the joints break anywhere when handling, maybe 1 out of a hundred. i use two brands of graphite holding tools, one is blastshield, the other is not, both work equally well. i also just use a glass female joint to hold on occasion. lenz joints dont seem touchy to me, but maybe if you buy cheap ones they might be more shocky.

We just don't want you to lose money or time (money).

Let's see a push bowl slide on 9.5 tube first and we can tell you where to go next. Ping-pong ball size with 3 inches of clean cut tube out the bottom. Make sure to show the weld in your pics.

Seriously, this is the most direct path to helping you.
