I'd say vols 1 and 2 are a bit more crucial, but there's a good deal of info in volume 3 including a chapter on shop safety and setup and I enjoyed the chapter on kinetic sculpture building techniques. Is it a "must have"? Mehh...maybe not. Do I feel like it was worth the money? Yes.
Frankly I'd consider rebuying the first two if I could get the pictures in color, that was a nice addition to the third volume.

It's a good read on a guy who traveled to different glass communities....More about his adventures and people he meets...There is some very good info here...If your going to build a glass engine, then buy this book fosho! Same with anything kinetic or if you like to build a marble run. I did get some good ideas from it and his adventures are worth reading about. Lots of colored pics too. I'm looking at the book now and there is a lot of how techniques that I wouldn't be interested in like how to make a beetle, dragon fly, flower, seahorse, fume skull. I am disappointed on the demo of the radiometer b/c I believe the pics and how to demo isn't enough info to make my own...it's missing a step, and some extra pics...Its been a while since I read it so I'll read it again and see if I understand it differently. The AGI chapter is Very interesting and I learned a little something when I read Dani Hatz demo. RAM has a Grall Goblet demo in there which is cool but I am against sandblast due to health hazards...I leave the glass powders to someone else...don't get me wrong, it's cool what they do but my lungs are too important to be messing around with glass powder. I won't even make my own frit b/c of the dangers. I think the getto neon bird of paradise was missing enough info that I wouldn't be able to make my own. I been a while though. It's a good read! If your into kinetics like making your own mouse trap, roulette wheel, GLASS ENGINE, or marble run, then buy this book. I liked the water clocks!

Slicks review is spot on, I'd say buy it.
It's a great read and I loved the chapter on his visit to Lauscha. There are some steps missing in some of the demo's but nothing that can't be figured out if you put your mind to it, makes it a challenge, which I enjoy.
