It was in the end of a short tube I just attached to a blowtube. Doh!
That's some pretty nasty black smoke!! Kinda surprised this hasn't happened to me already actually...

How do you think they get the black smoke when they are picking a new Pope?

some wax worker for casting do some really nasty stuff. Glues, plastics, rubbers, and burn it out in kilns. They have kiln ventillation and do it at lower temps though, but its still pretty dirty and these kilns aren't a pretty sight to look at.
Just stick some vanilla frosting lip smuckers in there at like 300, to over power it!

I mark my silver fuming rods with black electrical tape, and gold fuming rods with white tape. Well, today I added some more silver to the rod, but did it at the wrong end, and when I went to fume, the black taps started to burn up. That shi-tape stinks something fierce...

I had one of those Whatiswhatis gong holders with the rubber handle, I wedged it on the joint too hard and couldnt get it off, I had to get the piece back in the kiln so I just stuck it in there and melted off a huge glob of the rubber, still works good though.

hahah yeah these are the stories I was hoping would come out here! I knew that if I was sticking bad things in the kiln by accident, you guys probably have as well.
Just checked it this morning, the annealing cycle totally burned away everything. Can't even tell it happened!
Now I just have to learn how to anneal my lungs...

Someone thought it would be a good idea to stash a bottle of sambuca in a unused kiln. My wife was teaching a sculpture class and needed the extra space. When it blew up she didn't know what happened. When she opened the door to see what was going on a huge fire ball jumped out and filled the rafters with flames. You can still see the scorch marks and is often brought up as the dumbest thing ever to put in a kiln.
