I want to melt some common glass at 1500C. What is the best crucible to use ?

1. best crucible?
2. how do I remove all the bubble inside? Is mixer enough?

thanks

uhhhhh 1500 C?

you know that is way above the range you would need for any glass on the market.

also do some research on what happens to the bubbles.

yeah, "common glass" is not a trade or industry term, so really we have no idea what you're actually talking about. 1500ºC is higher than most artistic glass blowers work with...

That said... the names I know of in glass crucible technologies:

http://emhartglass.com/files/TW2025RevA.pdf

Any of them should be able to deliver whatever you need....

Curious as to what you're up to...and welcome.

Maybe they live somewhere where quartz is common :D

Come on Sky, where's your sense of adventure and experimentation? 1500ºC isn't really that hard to achieve or anything, fused silica products are processed at over 1600º. Nabertherm makes arc furnaces that can go over 3000ºC, and the associated materials to contain it ... of course those temps would vaporize any silica based glass, and the equipment itself doesn't last long.... but for some high tech applications you need that kind of heat. Laser systems can exceed 150,000,000ºC (150 million degrees) .... I think it's probably out of the range of reality to expect someone to melt glass at those temps, but those crazy physicists will probably make some weird self sustaining ignited hydrogen based glass by going the long way around from frozen and getting back to a solid plasma state or some nonsense like that. (seriously, this is the plan)

I dunno what somsone will do with 1500ºC in glass... batch boro?
