Hi everyone,
Can somone please tell me what manufacturing process to make a glass in shape of 3D solid cylinder?
The sizes of the cylinder are:
Diameter of the base circle = 35 mm
Diameter of the top circle = 35 mm
Height = 60 mm
Thank you

i have no idea and prolly shouldnt post but i imagine a mold would work good. i think it would be cool to pour molten glass into a piece of tubing the right size and length, but i am pretty sure its not gonna work, but a mold of the right size and material could be filled and slumped.

If you don't need it as boro, you might see what size the schott pucks come in. They're too short, but with a mold you could fuse them. You'd have to worry some about the clarity though since they're designed to be stripped before use.

What material of the mold is made?
Is it made by metal or wood?
I don't think wood is good choice because I think the surface will not smooth.
If it made from metal, what kind of metal is it?
Is it iron, alumunium, etc.?
Also, how do you release the glass from its mold?
I'm with misled youth. why make a mold when you can cut and polish all you need? It would be the most efficient way to go about the project overall. chop chop!

What is meant by the cut and polish?
I never cut a glass before.
I am afraid it will be broken and shattered.

My project is making a 3D solid cylinder as mentioned previously.
I think it's better by a casting.
yep they actually sell your 3D cylinders in 5 foot lengths (maybe not the exact size, maybe they do) Its called rod. I am only finding rod in 31.7mm and 38.1mm at the moment but who knows what more searching will yeild. You can cut glass with a diamond saw, or using a lap blade. I know it can be done because I do it all the time. Buff and polish both flat ends on a lap wheel and done. If you cant find rod that size tho, and you absolutely need 35mm than yes casting might be the way to go.

Sounds like you have your answer...now go forth and make it!

I really don't think this is possible with current glass technologies.
You MIGHT try finding some glass sex toys (dildos) and see if any of them are the right diameter, then take them to a company that cuts gravestones or granite counter tops. They will have special saws made of solid diamond will probably be able to cut most glass. They might tell you they can't do it or that it will damage their blades, just be persistent and show them the glass to cut and explain that it is not harder than granite.
Expect to pay in the neighborhood of $600-1000 USD for the cutting, and between $100-500 for the glass items.
Once your glass is cut to length you will need to send it to someone who specializes in polishing glass like Kyocera in Japan. You will probably have to have a company contact there, or you might find someone domestic to do it through a high tech firm like Intel or Apple...
If you're really committed you can probably bring this project in for under $5000 but it's going to take some creative negotiating and flexibility in your schedule to get it done cheap.

What are you gonna be using this cylinder for? Does it have a functional purpose or is it just an ornament? Aside it's size does it need any other properties specifically?
Assuming you have never worked with or cut glass, Outsourcing this to somebody who does is your best bet like doug just said.... The other idea of finding a glass rod of 35 mm and cutting it is prob the cheapest way to do this... if you cant find 35 (i dont know if they make that size, dont think so) buy a 38 like said above pulled a little thinner to reach a 35 and then cutting and fire polishing the edge...
again what on earth are you doing with this cylinder?

35mm rod (if it's made) will have a diameter of 35mm.
damnm you fucked my edit over, nice job. forever ingrained in the hall of red face shame now , thanks a lot! i was cracking out and thinking radius.

Gotcha dude !
I think that you just for whatever reason want to give us the appearance of someone,
who.s not a native english speaker.
And whatsoever your questions are about they show that you definately have some knollege about the subject.
Thats obviously because your questions are ment to come from a newbie, but they are too silly for someone
who,s really got no idea in working with glass.
You.re definately a troll !
You debunked yourselve by resisting good and logical answers on how to make ,what you said
you wanted to make.
For example that you can cut your bloody cylinders off a rod.
By the way, dude. All infos you.ve been asking fore are to be found in the internet not only in english but
in many other languages for sure.
What also demaskes you is that you,re not willing to tell us what native language you,re speaking
Hey man,you wanna have fun? You.ve got it ! We.ve got it !
Some wasted time for you but whats a bit of waisted if it brings so much fun for you ?
If I am wrong,I give you some free lessons and a free kick in my ass as well.
This is a serious offer. See this thread : http://www.talkglass.com/forum/showthread.php?40407-Oxyde-and-salt-colouring-explanations&highlight=
So whats your next question
