EDIT- In retrospect the title of this post should have read "Who has red crayon tubing available, and/or who can pull it".
Hello-
I asked this recently in someone else's thread but had no responses there, and have had no luck finding the answer elsewhere in the meantime. So please excuse the repeat question.
I'm looking for furnace pulled red crayon tubing. for my application it can be solid red color throughout or have a clear base on the inside. But it cannot have a clear coat, and it cannot have lines visible.
I've been making it by laying lines over clear tubing or coil potting, then melting in smooth, then blowing out and shaping the bubble. With smaller sections this method is no problem. But I've been needing bigger and bigger single sections of this color tubing, and it is near impossible to get a clean piece with this method on very large parts (I should mention my standards for "clean" are very high. I need the surface finish near perfect). I baby the process like you wouldn't believe-super cool flame, work far out, move painfully slow- yet inevitably there is always some amount of scarring/burning/etc in places. That and it's an incredible pain in the ass. Incredible being an understatement. At this point, it's obvious that pre-made tubing is really what I need.
Jeremiah Kern with "hand of man" glass does not cook pots of Cadmium colors, too toxic. Abe is not able to schedule this in at the moment. Glass Alchemy had some in stock and sent it out but it turns out be a fair bit darker than crayon, more like sangria or lipstick.
So 2 questions-
1. I'm on a tight deadline right now. Does anybody have any on hand that they could sell?
2. For future reference when I have a little more time, does anybody out there pull cadmium tubing?
That's it! Huge thanks for your help.
