not the kind on the bottom of the torch but I mean a stand like a mic stand, or Ive seen a big narley skeleton lookin one. I think merlyn (sp?) had one at champs games in 2011.

Im currently working out of my trailer while on the road and getting tired of the whole table/cinderblock thing and would love to just pop out my torch and go.

PICS would be GREAT!!!

thanks

harborfreight makes a stand designed for grinding wheels, its got an 8x8" or 10x10"? flat mateal sqaure on top, nice wide base, and an attached metal storage bin perfect for a crack off bucket. they retail at somin cheap like $35. wasnt tall enough for me, would need a longer threaded metal pipe to make it higher, but easily interchanged. im not a huge fan of harbor freight, but they seemed solid.

I have been using HTC HGP-10 bench grinder stands ( http://www.amazon.com/HTC-HGP-10-Bench-Grinder-Stand/dp/B0001LQXM2/ref=pd_cp_hi_2 ) for years and they have always been reliable for me. They have a 500 pound weight capacity and are adjustable from 22-to-43-inches.

Here are some pictures of how I use them in my shop.

Depending on how I am using them, I sometimes weight the base with dumbbells especially when using them as torch stands so that I can lean on the armrests I added without fear of tipping.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

I don't have one for sale but I wanted to try one out so I built one. An arc welder is cheap, or you can find someone that will help weld one up, there are a lot of arc welders just sitting in peoples garages.

I found most of the parts around my shop, but the stuff could be found or bought very cheap. I found the old trailer rim in the ditch across the street from my house. The stand isn't pretty, it was my first welding project but is sturdy, and straight. I paid 8$ for one piece of tubing that I didn't have, and that was pretty much the cost of my stand.

I think your stand is pretty man... good job.
Are your solenoids just free floating... not attached to anything?

Wilber... if that same stand was sold at ABR it would cost $320 or at least $250... just because its glass equipment.

I might have to try the stand deal... I've seen it rocked a few times, I think with a good side table it would go a long ways to keep me less scattered and disorganized.

I use an old conga stand...works great.I bolted a hunk of wood on it and clamped my torch down to that.

My stand is the $20 harbor freight adjustable roller stand (http://www.harborfreight.com/adjustable-roller-stand-46086.html), without the roller bolted on. I just bolt my torch where the roller would go.

Pics of the stand with a lynx at chest hight, and at the bench with a barracuda.

i just have a little extension of my bench for my torches base, i like it a lot. wish i had a torch stand. this always stood out as a good option, all that needs done is the rollers to be removed and replaced with a plate for the torch. similair to the harbor freight one but much sturdier and not too pricey...the feet also can easily be bolted down or welded to a steel plate

What do you guys like about having a stand?

Having a stand lets you work at angles you usually can't, like holding what you're working on vertically, where the bench would normally block it. That's about the only advantage vs having a nice bench-mounted stand, like the ones Blast Shield sells (which will get you 95% of the way there, but that 5% is not only an angle you can't hold, but also a line you can't cross).

Im the repurpose kind of guy. I got a elec drafting table out of a yard sale, cut the top off and now it raises and lowers for diff height peeps.
