View Full Version : kiln and tourch recomendations
Ok so i am new to the glass game and want to get my own workshop going i have never worked on a torch yet but have classes scheduled. Im probaly going to start of making small things like pendents, spoons, and other small pipes but eventually want to move on to making bigger mini tubes and such. So what im getting at what would be some good recommendations on some good kiln and torches maybe something that i wont have to upgrade off of for some time.
thanks for all the help in advance!

good kiln? id try n take him down on price a little bit
For a torch look into the G-Spec series. They are made specifically to make oil rigs and dabbers, but are capable of anything really. Make sure you get the quad mix though.
You don't really need a kiln right off the bat. You can wrap your pieces in tinfoil real good after they are done and it will keep them from cracking.
Good luck.

Welcome to the pot! I know that the Nortel red max is a good torch to start out with, and they are pretty inexpensive. it might not be a bad idea to try out a torch or two before you commit to anything. I really like my gtt. it has a super intense flame that's very adjustable .

I like my redmax. seems to do everything i need it to do. But im a newbie also so i dont exactly know. My first kiln was a paragon 9x9x9 chamber top loading kiln with analog control. It was a pain to get the temperature correct with the analog control. So after upgrading i would recommend getting a kiln that is either front loading or has a bead/ punty door. Also get one with a digital controller. I will be glad to help you, im self taught and have made many mistakes along the way, so hopefully someone can learn from them!!
ok thanks for all the input so far guys ill be posting here before i actually buy anything!
and i would love to get behind a torch a few times before one ive just been looking forever and cant seem to find anywere /:

I sell a kit that has everything(minus oxy/propane tank and ventillation) for $1200 shipped to your door. Kiln, torch, regs, glasses, tools, glass, everything. Its a very good deal. No BS. Just the basics to get started. Let me know.
i cant find to seem any informantion on the g-spec series can you please provide some sort of link to the product?
and chubbles i will do some more research into what exactly what i need and get back to you but what type of torch is included?

The g spec thing is a joke. He is busting your balls. People ask the question you posted about once a week. You aren't going to find a better setup than mine. Pictured is a nortel minor. I now sell it with the Bethlehem alpha. It's a cool little torch.

Funksizzle Technologies.
I would pass on any kits with a small torch. You can get a nice size used torch and a new front loader kiln with analog control for the 1200 save a few more bucks and get your vents glasses with flip downs and some graphite next payday.

great lathe for small tubes:

for small tubes this lathe is great!!! will need a ton of other stuff to go with it though; chucks, hand torches, hoses..etc
these will get you started off very nicely with the proper guidance/direction.

ok thanks notsure for the input ive decided on getting a gtt lynx for now but in the future when i upgrade id strongly consider the phantom and i think im going to take that kiln into consideration but im not quite ready to invest in a lathe quite yet at this point
You get your stuff yet.
You where driving me nuts with the pm's
I don't mind helping you seem respectfull
And seem to take detection well.
And are letting the jokes about lathes and dabber torches roll of your back.
When you get all Your gear let me know I will send you some links to some great old threads
according to the tracking my lynx should be here tomorrow and im going to go to air gas tomorrow as well and just lease a oxygen tank and see if they have the hoses, regs, and flashback arresters since i camt find a tank localy. But im still on the hunt for a kiln. ill def pm you when i get it all up and running!
