Hey guys I am here with a issue. I am having a very hard time making my tube pulls straight. They always seem to be to the left our the right which is a problem as I use the pulled glass as a blow tube so it makes my mouthpiece on the spoons off centered. Also guys what's the best size tubing to practice spoons with as I need to order a box because all I had was alot of glass thatwas given to me so not sure what to pick up with my first order. Thanks for the help guys and I did try to search but most I got was how to make spoons which I kinda get not so much how to do the tube pull.

Uh... Are you talking about pulling points? Tube pulls are full color line tubes.

Yes he is. Rage it hot and let it even out before you pull. Don't pull it in the flame. Pull it out of the flame and spin it for 3-5 seconds before you pull. Keep spinning as you pull. Keep it centered and straight. Don't set it down until its cooled enough to not move

yeah he must mean pulling points. for spoons a good size is 25mm extra hvy wall. to pull points you want to heat up a section thats as big as the tube is, and gently pull out while spinning both hands it takes some practice. or you can attach blow tubes order some 10-12mm hvy wall tube. and pick open a hole on the 25mm, flare out the 12mm blow tube to the right size and attach it.

And 25m is the standard for spoons.

I like pulling my points on the 25, and then tearing open the point and attaching my 25mm blanks onto the blow tube. points make it easier to attach imo

Diamond shears. It's retarded to pull a point just to tear it off and blowtube.

You guys seriously pull points on 25 mil? I just tear a tube in half, shove my blowkit in the factory opening and work off the tube. 25 doesn't weigh shit.

If you're just doing wrap and rakes, you're wasting time and gas, just work right off the 25mm tube. Way faster dude.

And if you come out uneven with your pulled points just heat the spot where it starts to taper and keep spinning accordingly to correct it.

I got tired of spinning 25, and now I load up 3.5" section blanks of 25mm on 12mm blow tubes before hand and then go back over them. You can spin 12 much faster then 25

and I save more time attaching blow tubes to a 25mm that I pulled out slightly, i never pull them to a point fully, just about 2 inches, it makes attaching the blow tube easier for me.

Depends on how good your spoon making skills are. if you are at the point where you are still trying to get the push right every time, and all of that...try using a smaller tube. I was shown to just close and blow out 12.7 or 16 mil, then make the head of the spoon, then tear it off the tube and make/clean the mouthpiece. if you are already good at spoon making basics, you won't want to do it this small. however, if your working on learning the basics, starting here can be easier.

i'm just a newb, but i always take the extra 20 seconds and weld on a blowtube, even with 1" heavy. i'm sure it comes with experience, but i find i can make a better shaped pipe if i have a 4" section on a tube or point....i always screw it up when working directly off of the tube.

I haven't made a spoon in a year or two, but I most definitely pull points. I haven't even made a flower piece in probably a year. I blow glass every day also. I never tried working off the whole stock. I can break a whole tube down pretty quick though. And I would pick the mouthpieces of a few dozen all at the end. Seemed the quickest way for me. I never used wrap and rake in my work though. Never liked it.

^this!

13 years in and I still have to do this to straighten almost every single point.

I used to use 12.7 blow tubes and I just started pulling points on 25 x 4 and I can't really tell which is faster. I do like blow tubes more in my hands I feel more comfortable but I may just be more used to them for right now

Well let me ask this. What's the easiest way to attach a blow tube.I've only seen people with off the pulled point

Captain Glass

I normally just attach straight off the tube. Like someone else said pick or blow open a hole and flare a 12 or 9 mm handle. Get both equally hot and put together.

I cut my tube down with diamond shears. Leaves a perfect blowtube sized hole every time
